I think the main reason we haven't brought in a new box to box midfielder is because of the sheer numbers we have in that position. We'd need to offload one or two, Mccarthy would be the prime suspect but he's still injured and then besic I'm sure would have been the next option, but he's one of the few who's made an impression this summer, so deserves a chance in the manager's eyes.

Right now I'd be playing gueye and besic, we're going to ship goals yes, but at least there's a fair bit of energy there with one dropping back to get the ball off the centre back whilst passing forward and one winning it back. With a good defence they may do ok until jan when we'll have to look to ship off Mccarthy or schneiderlin unless he decides he is arsed.

He'd be our best midfielder by a country mile - everything we are missing. Pace, ball carrying and forward passing.

However Sarri has started him in every game so far and Chelsea fans seem to be heaping praise on him so it won't happen.

I'd much rather us get Tierney than Digne, I'm not very excited about signing a left back that's not very good going forward.

I would have liked Mina but it's obvious he's holding out for a better offer and will only come here as a last resort, in which case we should move on. Who that might be? I don't know but it clearly needs to be someone with a bit of pace.

The worrying part is that it usually takes about a week from when a deal is reportedly "done" to us actually announcing it, so we really do need to get a shift on.

I think im ready to wet the bed now - our garbage pre-season combined with Liverpools storming one is sending me over the edge. If we wait until the last day to miss out on Digne and Mina because they don't fancy us and he leaves us with what we've got at the back, I'll have Allardyce back.

Should of just stumped up the cash at the start and be on to next target instead of chasing shadows
