Llorente had been set to leave Spurs on a free; his deal is up. I've seen rumors about another deal from Spurs and also interest from Atletico Bilbao.

I'm thinking about him as a Calvert-Lewin upgrade. He's a big guy, so could offer the same strong hold-up presence up front that made our shape work so well at the end of the season. But he's been a better finisher.

I'd be leery because he's 34. He played very well in certain games obviously. If he'd had more action I wonder if he would have worn down. And there's not much future in a 34-year-old guy.

Still- he had an excellent connection with Sigurdsson a couple of years ago at Swansea.

Surely he's a massive step back from DCL?

Llorente has never been an all energy lung busting forward. Take DCL out of the side and the pressing dies. I'm sure that Llorente would score a few more and would win the same headers, but taking that workrate out of the side means the opportunities to retain the ball wouldn't be there.

Without a doubt there is a better striker out there. But he'd cost loads of money and would need to bed in. Whereas don't need to buy Calvert-Lewin who has done that job excellently and at 21 can only improve.

Think the hard reality is that we going to have to take quite a few of these 'hits', if we are serious about clearing all the deadwood out. Damned, we made a mess of it before Brands arrived, didn't we? Shocking really.

We'll have to run some of these contracts down unfortunately. The only alternative is to pay the contracts off; but there's your transfer budget for two seasons gone.

Clubs may be willing to take the players off us, we may even squeak a fee for one or two of them. There's no doubt in my mind however that they will not be paid the same wages that they are currently on - so they either won't go, or we'll end up part funding salaries which doesn't put us in a significantly better spot.

It'll be 3 or 4 years until we are in a real position to move forwards. Until then we'll have to grab the odd player if we can sell a few and continue to develop the fantastic young prospects we have.

I know there are differences but I see ultimately another wide player who is going to primarily look to score goals and who is probably going to be on the right. Different styles yes but the same role which makes it unnecessary for me since we need players who do other things more right now.
Fair, but we need 2 on each side. Lookman is a left sided player. We’ve got him and Bernard. Richy is getting better on the right, but who backs him up? We don’t have a natural right sided player that’s left footed period. Bertrand can cross a ball and pass, but Silva wants more inside types that can score. Seems to give us a bit of something we don’t have.

I just think it’s unlikely we spend a ton on either wide position. He wouldn’t be pricey.

He’s definitely not much of an upgrade at this point. He’d be an option off the bench when teams are packing it in against us off crosses and set pieces.

He's definitely better than Walcott, would be on half the wages, and would be a much better fit in Silva's tactics. He's 23, he's not going to lose value I don't think. I also could see a Richarlison back on the left with Traore on the right against some teams.

The current form of Malcom is not much better than Walcott. A risk and a waste of money when we are trying to develope 2 of our best young wingers waiting for a chance to stack a claim in the first team.
Malcom would have been good signing if our wingers are kilbane and Simon Davies. The type of loan signing similar to pienaar at the lowest point of his career, with a chance to resurrect and offer something beyond the capabilities we have. We are currently stack with good wingers. Priority should be a striker now.

Yussuf Poulsen from RB Leipzig

My cousin who lives and works in Frankfurt (long way from Leipzig, admittedly) reckons his Leipzig-supporting boss thinks we have been talking to them about him.

Take this as the most tenuous of links of all time, since it's effectively the German version of "a lad in work told me..."

In the bin.

Who is Yussuf Poulsen? Keita's Liverpool-supporting team-mate who wants Premier League move

Yeah, another way of putting "he's old." OTOH DCL at one point had clocked one of the highest sprint speeds in the PL this season.

I'd also be leery of blocking DCL's development with an old.

But Llorente and Siggy had the best hookup connection in the PL two years ago for a pretty bad Swansea team. https://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport...edible-statistics-prove-swansea-city-13043520 . So thinking out loud.

If he's going to spend another year as a bench warmer, he'll surely stay at Spuds?

It’s much better than Walcott, but frankly, we are in a very different situation. And what do you mean about the lowest point of his career? If he come off and wants to stay, which I’m not even favoring in, but if he did, just a year ago he was considered every bit as talented as our current forwards. The kid had 12 goals and 7 assists in Ligue 1 last year. Walcott was the single biggest issue in our attack this past year. Constantly losing the ball and producing little when he had it. Works hard, but he has to go. A loan for a kid that has gotten playing time at Barca and has his level of talent is a no brainer. At some point, we have to get Silva a left footed right sided forward.

Malcom is currently way better than Walcott what are you on? Malcom is getting limited game time and probably leaving Barcelona because he plays the same position as this one guy called Messi not because be isn't good.

I hope you are kidding. Walcott is the worst at ball retention on the team. He was so bad we had to move a left sided player to sit him down. Malcom went to Barcelona for 41M last year coming off an amazing year as a 21 year old in Ligue 1. One is worth 40M+, the other is worth nothing and we’ll have trouble dumping him anywhere.
