To help train the 1st and 2nd choice keepers? To be an adult influence in the dressing room? Same reason any club has an experienced third choice.

He has an unbelievable life right? Zero expectation, knows he'll never play yet gets thousands a week for... nothing. Fantastic job.

It's weird, I know he's cheap so it's kind of a who cares situation, but the only time we even see him on the bench it's when there's another keeper right there next to him. He's basically a mascot.

Because they have a completely different training experience to outfield players.

I actually think Dyche could get something out of Barkley. I wish he’d broken through earlier under Moues and had longer with him because Martinez’s constant praise management style did nothing for him once he’d broken through in that first season.

So use a youth team player in that role, let them train with the first team squad, experience match day. If they're not playing anyway, who cares?
