Summer transfer window 2023

I don't *want* a 38 year old on our right wing, I'd much prefer us to go out and sign an actual right winger with a bit of resale value (a la Onana). But the squad is thin and will only get thinner with sales, and finances are tight and will be until we're in Bramley Moore. On a free, it makes sense; there aren't many others in the free transfer market that would improve the squad. Villa fans generally still very positive about his performances last year, I'm sure @Villa_Fan will have an interesting take

I didn't say drop Doucoure by the way, Doucoure currently one of the first names on the team sheet. I also don't *know* its Young by the way, it just makes a lot of sense and fits with what @Tofeenut so cryptically shared. Getting annoyed at Young signing would be like getting annoyed at when Begovic signed - who's arsed, he's a decent squad player on the cheap
He wouldn’t be on the cheap he’s want a good wage and signing on fee. And if you’re moving iwobi inside you’d have to drop doucoure.

He'd be relatively cheap as a stop-gap, the signing on fee is unlikely to be huge and the wages will be decent but not much worse. Again, I'd much rather we go and get the next Young, but we've got a lot to do this summer and this ticks off one of the boxes early without us having to wait for a buyer for someone like Onana or Gray.

Think you're missing my point about Iwobi back inside, I mentioned that if we lost Iwobis legs out wide to help out Coleman/Patterson/Garner, we'd be in a bad way - Young can provide cover on a few bases, and in some cases we can move Iwobi back into the middle where he is (in my opinion) at his best. That could be for example in games where we need more creativity in the middle of the park - we're unlikely to want Gana Gueye running the show in the middle of the park when Luton have 10 men behind the ball at Goodison, for example

Again to reiterate, I'm not ITK but think it makes sense

Get your thinking on him just feel we have to move away from a player like young is 37 now. Rodrigo i get at 32 just feel is better players than young

I think there's room in the squad for one or two - he played 20+ games for a Villa side that finished in the European places, his age really doesn't matter when you consider the likely alternative for a versatile squad player on a 1-year deal is probably going to be a one year loan deal anyway. Coleman, Young, Tarkowski would be a good set of professionals in the team.
