Everton are close to confirming the return of Barcelona forward Gerard Deulofeu in a £5m deal.

The 21-year-old had a successful loan season at Goodison in 2013/14 but spent much of last season on the sidelines during another loan at Sevilla.

Deulofeu believes Everton manager Roberto Martinez is the man to revive his career and has turned down other more lucrative offers to return to Merseyside.

Personal terms have been agreed and it is believed Barcelona will insert a buy-back option into the deal for some future point should he develop as they once hoped.

Do I trust the BBC?
Of course! Nothing shady has ever happened involving the bbc mate

Do West Ham think the TV money has come in this season and not next?

No - they will probably be working on a financial model based on how many seats they will sell at the Olympic Stadium - and to maximise that will need a few higher profile players. Payet would likely be at the top-end of the kind of players they can attract, but will come at a premium in terms of their current model. It is a gamble, but I doubt a very big one, as once they move they will be in a different league to us financially speaking - look at the impact securing the Commonwealth stadium ultimately had at City.

Interestingly now the buyback is only 12 months. Our negotiators are pretty good. They might not be the quickest but they get a good deal.

And how many major buyback's have you ever seen? Not many. Regardless of whether the club has to accept a bid of a certain amount from a certain club at a certain time, the player is gonna have to want to go back there. Having mostly been bombed out by such clubs, I can understand why not many do.

Deulo is going to have to have been exceptionally good for Barca to want him back (and him have a chance of being in there starting XI), so worst case scenario is that we will make a profit on a player who has made a significant impact for us for a while - better than another loan.

I think we are only going into the second year of the new TV deal. This time next year will be the last year of the new TV deal, and then yet another brand new TV deal will come our way in 2017?

Everton Football Club is delighted to announce the permanent signing ofGerard Deulofeu.

The exciting winger, who enjoyed a season on loan at Goodison Park in 2013/14, returns to Merseyside after the Blues agreed a fee of €6million with European champions Barcelona.

The 21-year-old will officially become an Everton player on 1 July.

Deulofeu has put pen-to-paper on a three-year contract until the summer of 2018, with Everton having the option of a further year on the Spaniard’s deal. The contract includes a release clause if Barcelona make an offer to Everton meeting certain requirements within the first two years, and Barcelona also have a right of first refusal if Everton decide to sell the player.

“Gerard needs no introduction to anyone here at Everton, for we are all well aware of his incredible footballing talent,” said Everton manager Roberto Martinez.

“We got to know him really well from his loan period, not only as such a talented player but also his great character. He will be a fantastic asset to our Club.”

Spaniard Deulofeu made 29 appearances during his first stint with Everton. He scored on his Toffees debut in the Capital One Cup against Stevenage and went on to net three times in the Premier League, including a memorable equaliser against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in December 2013.

Deulofeu spent the 2014/15 season on loan at Sevilla, where he played 28 times and helped the La Liga outfit win the Europa League.

A product of La Masia, Barcelona's famed youth system, Deulofeu rose through the ranks at the Nou Camp and played regularly for the Catalan giants’ ‘B’ team before progressing to make a handful of substitute appearances for Barca's senior side in the league, cup and Champions League.

He becomes Everton’s second signing of the summer following the recruitment of midfielder Tom Cleverley, who will also join at the start of next month when his contract with Manchester United expires.

I don't think the squad is bloated , if anything it is a bit thin.
We must remember that we are carrying players who have injury issues in Hibbert, Gibson, Oviedo, Kone and Pienaar. We can only hope that the coming season will be better for all of them. Hopefully Oviedo can get back to full fitness but there will always be question marks around the others.
Excluding the two goalkeepers that leaves us with fourteen players counting Cleverley, Garbutt and Mirallas. Hopefully that will rise to fifteen today. I did not count Galloway.

I meant the squad we'd have to register (and pay wages for) is getting up there in number. With Deulofeu now confirmed, it's around 22 players.

But back on topic: yay Deulofeu, etc.

Martinez says his objective was to get Cleverley and Deulofeu done as quickly as possible. Let's see what the next objective is.

A quick update :-

Deulofeu - Done deal, will sign a 3+1 contract on July 1st
Cleverley - Done deal, signs on July 1st
Dann - some more recent noise on this
Payet looks like he's bound for West Ham

Bamford - possible, but probably not that likely. Mentioned in the Mail and others
Defrel - linked from what appears to be a half way decent Italian source
Heaton - linked in the Independent

Elis
- linked in the Mail a few weeks ago. Seems to have gone quiet
Klavan - linked last week in the Mail

Lennon
- hopefully brought back after his loan
Dembele - linked in the Mail and Star
Deeney - Mirror, but if 20 million is needed this one's nonsense

I'll update the list properly tonight.
