not sure with any of the centre halfs weve been linked with, but with moyes you know he makes an ordinary player look the part an whoever he buys im sure he will be a solid performer week in week out.... so its over to you davie moyes... find us a gem..(y)

we might have missed the boat with players from portsmouth.

a club on its arse like that with a worse ground than goodison get taken over.

sigh.

Yeah but how many times have they been taken over now? At least threes time and it hasn't worked out so well for them so far.

I would not pay more than £2.5m for him. Good player maybe, but not what we need to take the club forward under the Moyesterplan.

£2.5m in todays market wouldn't get you a very good, experienced centre half. £5-6 million and we're getting a very good defender who will give us atleast 3 years of football. He can fit straight into the team and doesn't need months to adjust. Good deal in my view.

You have to compare it with todays market and really Distin isn't bad value for money. Lescott isn't 18 million pounds better then Distin, even tho Distin is 4 years older.

Sign him up Moyesie, we need players before Sunday.

If we signed him, he'd be one of our top earners, and at the end of his contract would have no resale value. Granted, we need to sign a replacement for Lescott, but we should not deviate from our strategy of buying young upcoming talent rather than established but nearly-over-the-hill players.
I'd rather we bought Senderos or tried to buy Michael Turner.

Totally see where you're coming from, mate. The one thing I like, though, is his experience. I get the feeling he could walk into the first team straight away and do a job that matches anything Joleon could do. I think we need a seasoned pro bringing in.

maybe if we could get him on a 3 year contract?

Senderos is no where near as good as Distin. Hull will want 12m for Turner which is a lot of cash. Turner isn't the defender we need imo, he's a do or die type player (A Jags). Distin is a footballer who is very calm on the ball and extremely athletic. He's very quick aswell and Distin next to Jags would be excellent. You have to get the right balance with young and expereinced, he could fit into Lescott's role no problem. We could have 5 years left in him. The deadline is fast approaching and we need players for now as much as for the future. 5 million is a good deal especially when you see Huth going for 5.5m.

Liverpool paid £2M for the younger Kyrgiakos. He'll be a good addition, but £5M for Distin looks a pretty poor bit of business to me. Still, he's not Steven Taylor which is the most important thing. (y)

If he does sign him, I can just imagine him playing alongside Yobo and wincing everytime Yobo hoofs it upfield.

But saying that he wont have anybody to give the ball to untill Mikel comes back.

Im really past caring who we sign now, im fairly Moyes feels the same. I think its just a case of throwing money at different clubs and players and seeing which 1s take the bait.

Gotta love the Everton Way.

Have to say I was quite interested when I heard about a move for this player, (must stop thinking it's not Dustbin ) but anyhow he would be useful from set pieces with his 6ft 3' frame and could room with Saha on the road. the Portsmouth player already is nearing the twilight years of his career at 31, but can still perform admirably and all told I would like to see him at the club, but 5 million seems a little steep for a player of such age.

McBain will like you.
