Team goals or individual goals?

Team goals are great, there is almost nothing better than watching a team go on the rampage together through another teams defence. It speaks to the mind and gladdens the heart. A great individual goal goes straight to your soul and stays there forever. Individual for me then. Gazza against Scotland, Giggs against the Arsenal the best I can remember at this hour of the morning.

Own goals for me every time.

Especially ones that result in broken noses.*

YouTube - Chris Brass - funniest own goal ever

* There will never, ever be a funnier goal scored than this.

That was incredible.

My favorite is a team goal in the Sweden-Senagal WC 02 round of 16 match. Senegal took the ball from their own touch line and in about 8 sec hit 4-5 perfect passes and got it to Camara who finished it off to tie it 1-1. After the goal the Swede coach just shrugged his shoulders and stuck his tongue out like "well there was nothing anyone could have done to stop that"

One of the best goals I remember was a tap in by Dwight Yorke for Villa after about 439 passes. Alexander Mostovoi scored a fabulous goal against Barca for Celta Vigo a few years ago after shimmying through the defence. Couldn't say which I prefer. One of the beautiful things about football is the space it allows for individual and collective expression. Ossie's goal was great coz it combined a bit of both, fantastic move with a difficult execution at the end of it.

Watching a good side score a great team goal through craft and vision is footballs holy grail, but seeing an individual goal that defies the laws of the game we grew up with; theres nothing better.

Individual goals roll up team goals and smoke them.
