Neville Southall
Tommy Wright
Kevin Ratcliffe
Brian Labone
Leighton Baines
Peter Reid
Howard Kendall
Alan Ball
Peter Reid
Colin Harvey
Gary Lineker
Wayne Rooney

On another day I could have put Royle, Sharp, Latchford, Ferguson or Jelavic up front.

GK 1 Wales Neville Southall
RB 2 England Gary Stevens
LB 3 Wales Pat Van Den Hauwe
CB 4 Wales Kevin Ratcliffe (c)
CB 5 England Derek Mountfield
CM 6 England Peter Reid
RM 7 England Trevor Steven
CF 8 England Graeme Sharp
CF 9 Scotland Andy Gray
CM 10 Scotland Paul Bracewell
LM 11 Republic of Ireland Kevin Sheedy

I'd have to put a subs bench of Martyn, Watson, Baines, Arteta, Fellaini, Pienaar and Rooney.

That's what I'd call squad depth

only young so it will be from about 2004 onwards.
Martyn
Hibbert Jagielka Lescott Baines
Arteta Fellaini Gravesen Pienaar
Jelavic Rooney

i would of loved too of seen Fellaini and Gravesen in the same midfield. had to shift Arteta out on the right because i havent really seem many quality right wingers, hopefully Mirallas will be the next one.

In terms of what I've enjoyed watching and the impact they had for different reasons, other than the obvious all-conquering side (which for those of us lucky enough to witness would undoubtedly be a straight 11 choice), this bunch also did it for me:

Southall
Watson
Baines
Mountfield
Lyons
Kancheslkis
Reid
Bracewell
Sheedy
Latchford
Campbell

Subs:
Martyn
Gough
Weir
Steven
McCall/Stuart
Fellaini
Linekar/Jelavic/Rooney/Sharp

Sadly, I suspect I'll never see a better Everton team than that, and I'm not even 40.

In the spirit of the original posts idea, players who I've seen who I think could have improved the team
Kanchelskis
Baines
Rooney
The rest have yet to be bettered in my life time (and Kanchelskis was such a different type of winger to Trev I couldn't honestly say he was better, but definitely the most exciting player I've seen in blue.)

Was only five at the time but actually saw Ball,Harvey,Kendall, however couldn't say I was old enough to appreciate their brilliance!! so would go for:

Southall

Stevens
Van den Hauwe
Ratcliffe
Watson

Steven
Reid
Bracewell
Sheedy

Sharp
Gray

Subs:

Martyn
Mountfield
Baines
Todd
Latchford
Arteta
Kanchelskis

GK: Southall (he was right at the end of his career though)
LB: Baines
CB: Lescott
CB: Jagielka
RB: Hibbert FFS!
LM: Pienaar
CM: Arteta
CM: Fellaini
RM: Kanchelskis
CF: Cahill
ST: Rooney

Someone's gonna point it out so it may as well be me; numbers/nationalities of Sharp, Gray and Bracewell are a bit muddled there.

As I clearly said....for the impact they had at the time. Campbell saved us from relegation....a drop we wouldn't have easily recovered from. Linekar gave us one, albeit glorious, season and then saw peseta signs, we never saw the greatness we should have with Rooney in a blue shirt bar about 6-12 months, and Sharp was in my 'obvious' first 11.
Sometimes it's easier to read the post slowly than stumble in, make a stupid comment and dash off .
