Tech help needed.

Sorry if there is a proper thread for this stuff but I couldn't see one.

In my usual window punching attitude to all things technical I've messed up my display settings on the computer. I'll try an explain the problem and any help will be greatly appriciated.

I was able to link my laptop into the TV fine as long as I only wanted the TV or the laptop to be the display. While trying to fix this (stupidly it turns out) I did something which now means that when I plug in the HD cable I lose all the icons on my desktop and mouse function, I just have my screensaver image and can't work out a way of accessing my display options. When I remove the HD cable my icons and mouse return. The TV does not show anything while in this "locked" display. This happens whether I start up with the cable in or put it in after.

Any idea what I've done and how I can rectify it? I'm using Vista if that matters. Thanks again guys.

control panel
display
multiple monitors
arrange 1 & 2 left and right to suit how they are situated
click extend my desktop to 2nd monitor
you then drag stufff across to the side to display on tv.
you may need a lead for the sound.

Reformat and put xp sp2 on it. Sorted.

Hey Reidy, thanks for the suggestion.

Unfortunately working that part is not the problem mate, it's how to stop this screensaver thing locking me out as soon as I plug in the HD cable. This is what stops me being able to access the display options settings or even just right clicking on the desktop to display through the TV.

This is something I did so should be pretty easy to put right, if only I wasn't so retarded and could work out what setting I changed and change it back before hooking up the TV. :blink:

Sorted if I had a clue what xp sp2 meant.:blink: This is also my laptop through work so I am restricted in what I can do. Like I said above this is just something I must have activated somewhere and can surely be unactivated without anything too drastic.
