Technology at the match?

Lao

Player Valuation: £35m
I'm currently involved in a working party looking at the future development of technology in schools. Already we have developed things like the use of PSPs in lessons with Crazytalk animation. We are also looking at the educational value of mobile phones. I had a little play with a Microsoft Surface the other day, and we are looking at how this could be used in schools.

One project kids are working on at the moment is technology at the match, and coming up with suggestions to the question:

How can premier league clubs use technology to improve the fan's matchday experience?

Everton have recently won an award for bluetooth innovation, and Arsenal have an iphone app available which gives fans matchday updates, team news etc. They are also working on goal replays being sent to mobiles - instant replays as you watch the game.

How about ordering things from the club shop during the game and picking them up from a collection point on your way out. Or ordering food/drinks for half time on your mobile and picking them up without the queuing?

Any ideas of how you see the matchday experience of the future?

My matchday experience could be very much better by getting a decent right back.

The order food from your phone things sounds good, and most of the stuff will go through that route as the likes of iphones, windows mobile and androids become a regular interface for the outside life.

I'd absolutely hate it, but voting for man of the match through the bluetooth on your swanky phone at the match will no doubt come in.

Augmented reality will open up another who host of options at the match as it developed rapidly as its doing.

Sorry nothing to do with the thread, but how was the Microsoft Surface? Pretty ******* expensive those things lol

The Surface was impressive but a bit gimmicky for now. You can put your phone down on it and it opens a bluetooth port and transfers your contacts (they appear as little business cards on the table) and photos etc. You can then edit them, throw them away or add new ones just by dragging them around.

The most impressive thing for me was the virtual piano, the edge of the table becomes keys and you can play it!

Google Earth looked good, and may have some educational value, but not a lot of other applications for schools yet.

I could have one for £10,000 at the moment, but couldn't justify spending that much for something that probably wouldn't get used enough.

And is that for a Windows based product?

Hey Lao

Do you need any more educational sites to link in with technology stuff?

Whatever you can suggest would be welcome Jo. We are keeping all options open at the moment and looking at anything and everything.

Currently looking at virtual walk-thru's (Virtual Museums etc) that kids can develop using things like Second Life, Sketchup, 3-D Virtualisers.

Any links would be useful, or if you want any info let me know.

Sure is Ghost, awful isn't it!

Have you seen one? They are the size of a large coffee table, touch surface screen.

The one I saw was running Vista. Loads of game usage, Virtual Chess was good on it. Aimed predominantly at the pub/club market, but MS are trying to extend target market.

I can see it's uses for it's market. Not for this motley crue though, if it's over £300 it's too expensive. :)

True - certainly not something people would have at home. Unless you're a footballer or something.

Live games online for international fans - i pay about 80 quid (euro) a month for Sky to see an Everton game once a month, the rest of the time i try to find a stream, not becuase im not willing to pay because there are no other alternatives - bar giving up my Saturday night to watch football first (screw that)!

Massive oppurtunity and money spinner being missed by the club.

*Oh and robotic players - dont get injuries.

I dont think its the Club as such Neiler, theres a load of broadcasting rules concerning football and mainly football played at 3pm on a Saturday.

But I agree, this needs to be looked at and it will, but the clubs main fears will always be reductions in attendances.

EDIT, I noticed you said International, my bad.
