Texting While Driving

I ran across a good article today in Car & Driver concerning the dangers of texting while driving.

Texting While Driving: How Dangerous is it? - Feature/Features/Classic Cars/High Performance/Hot Lists/Reviews/Car and Driver - Car And Driver

I have to admit that I am not into texting but the article does support my belief that the practice is dangerous. It essentially concludes that texting while driving impairs reaction time just as much if not more than drunk driving.

It burns my biscuits to drive up behind someone who is driving below the speed limit - ultimately betting myself that they are on the phone or texting - and winning that bet 8 out of 10 times. Traffic is already bad enough without this additional hinderance.

Is this an issue outside the US? Are you on board with me or are am I whacked? Weigh in.

It is an issue.

Talking on the phone while driving can be distracting enough but looking at your keyboard and screen while trying to drive is just downright dangerous.

I'm confident that when you see a few heavy duty wrecks this year, that a few of them will be caused by some moron not paying attention to the road and what's in front of him.

My brother texts all the time driving, so I'm sure a lot of people do do it.

He's got an iPhone aswell

I also know of somebody who was very nearly killed by somebody texting while driving. It's an absolute moronic thing to do. Worse than talking on the phone while driving, obviously.

Agreed. Stupid thing to do. And if I owned a mobile, I almost certainly wouldn't text someone, especially if driving.

I once saw a woman putting make-up when she was driving. That also struck as a bit idiotic.

My friend got pulled buy the Rozzers for texting and got £60 and 3 points. Just like speeding. Think it is possibly more dangerous as your not even looking at the road.

You wouldnt be able to read while driving would you???

Absolute waste's of space people that text whilst driving. They are idiots who can do what they want to themselves, but please do not jeopardise my life as you are too impatient to stop and text, or too dumb to phone (using hands free of course)

I drive for a living, and these idiots infuriate me.

I've never sent a text while driving & I never intend to. I think I'm a fairly decent driver but if part of my mind was concentrating on a text rather than the road I wouldn't feel anywhere near as confident in my driving ability.

Oddly enough, I was driving along a few weeks ago & speaking on my phone (hands free) - which I avoid doing as much as possible - & a pheasant ran out in front of me & I was aware enough to spot it, know there was no cars close behind me & was able to slam on & not kill the dozy ****er. That was quite reassuring.
