Yesterday a staggering 89% of people who visited the site, did so with GrandOldTeam whitelisted on their adblock;
That's a record for as long as the logs will let me go back.
This is because, since this thread on Thursday, from our frequent, long term pot of adblock users, 43% of them opted to whitelisted GrandOldTeam. I've estimated that's over 1 million page loads per month that will now have adverts/traffic counted. Legends, thanks a lot if you've done that .
Also, thanks to those who reached out privately to tell me they either 1) didn't know they had Adblock on, and those that did, 2) wasn't sure how to disable it and 3) didn't know they could whitelist individual sites.
It proved very insightful and useful feedback. With regards to 1), we track all adblock usage and so yesterday, any user with a log of having adblock enabled had a temporary little user banner with 'Adblocking Slimeball'. Everyone (well, apart from one... ), reacted really well to it and in the spirit it was intended and it went a long way to helping people know they had adblock enabled. From the 43% referred to earlier, 31% was since the slimeball labelling lol
With regards to 2) and 3), it's tricky because there's so many adblockers out there, so many devices, so many blockers that instructions can vary but I'll see if I can find a solution to this.
I have Adblock myself. I use Adblock. Adblock, Ghostery etc are all needed. But so are small, fan ran platforms - I whitelist such sites, and would encourage everyone else to do likewise. Our platform is safe - we have a top spec , UK based dedicated server and security - Cloudflare, SSL certification and commercial private add-ons to keep the site safe and secure. I also ensure our ad agency network are local (Well, Warrington), trusted and accountable ran by a blue! Our ads also aren't invasive and if any are, let us know - we move quick to remove them.
I know I go on, and on about Adblock... ( 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2020... ) - GOT costs between £530-£620 per month so it's tough trying to keep the lights on so a big thanks to everyone who helps us by disabling adblock, picking up a subscription or buying stuff from our shop.
I also know not everyone can disable adblock because their work etc forced it. That's sound - just please do when you can.
