The Ashes 2023

Hugely anti-climatic but England can be extremely proud of their performance. They've made the aussies cower and grovel to the weather, and the Australian cricketing public should be ashamed of their performance. Be interesting to see how Cummins squeezes another batter in for the last test.

Well played Ben Stokes and England, a great effort Played for the good of test cricket. Warney must be rolling in his grave at these cowardly aussies. Shame, shame on the Australian cricket team.

Changes for the Oval?

I can see Green being dropped for Murphy and possibly Starc for Nesser

Will England stick with Jimmy? 4 wickets from 3.5 tests is no return
Can Broad do 5 back to back?
Is Woakes &/or Robinson fit?

Think Wood will be ok as didn’t bowl much at OT and the top 7 pick themselves atm

I wonder if the men will adopt the women’s format of a points based system to still include 5 tests but add in a few T20s and an ODI or two?

Rubbish that the tests have to be shoehorned to finish before August so that the ECB can run their Hundred format
Good point, the hundred is strauss's abomination, the ashes should always take priority

It’s not about just helping England. It’s about making Test cricket better. It’s in desperate need of getting more people into it. Draws because of the weather is something that can be changed that would improve the format.
Aussies aren't interested in helping test cricket matey, they adopt a win at all costs mentality. That cost being common decency and the future of the sport.

In hindsight, England should have gone harder with Stokes and Brook in bat at the end of the second day instead of playing the day out. Is only way they would have had a chance of winning this.
Can you imagine what the 'England' fans who show up once every four years would say about stokes if they had????

That 30 mins of defensive batting was likely their fave part of the series.

TBF the Hundred has put women’s cricket on the map especially as they play just before the men.
But I’ve read that it’s highly likely that both The Blast and the Hundred are likely to be gone by 2028 or sooner now that the new American T20 has started offering more money than either of our two formats. What they’ll replace it with I don’t know but I suspect IPL franchise owners will be lurking somewhere with a view to teams such as London Capitals, Birmingham Super Chargers et al playing T20s

Nonsense. I would happily suggest that every single cricket international, no matter what format or opposition, is sold out across the country.

Very annoying ending to the series, but the weather is part of the game unfortunately. Sometimes the better team doesn't win in sport

The series was lost with the poor fielding and poor decisions in the first test. Australia deserved to win test 2, England deserved to win test 3 and test 4, and threw away the first test. The Edgbaston one is the one that got away.

What on earth has what I said got to do with attendances?

You have people wading in slaughtering England and Stokes and completely misunderstanding what they are trying to do, lots of them are fans who only talk cricket when the ashes are in england, but granted some of the them the old posh bells like the TMS brigade or boycott who have been waiting (waiting 18 months) to have a pop at this England team for losing two incredibly close games against the best team in the world.

Congratulations Australia

No doubt you’d have preferred to win so it’s all to play for at the Oval

Not literally at the stadium with a ticket. In the forums, at the bars, in front of their own TVs.

I hope they stay though, and look past the short sighted critiques that many seem to have fallen into and see what England are trying to achieve long term. There is a far better chance of keeping them in the sport beyond a home ashes series because of Stokes and McCullan
