Also lots positive.

I put down the creativity and civilisation to the celts. The organisation, industry and bloody mindedness to the angles and saxons, and the greed, repression, brutality, feudalism, nobility, empire grabbing etc. down to the normans.

I'm not a fan of the normans and will happily sneer at the aristocracy and anybody with a "de" in their name.

The islands belong to the celts really, I agree good sir.

Small islands and camping.

I put these type of people down to a place that offers no threat from large apex predators, volcanic activity, severe weather systems and guns. British people are bored shitless and cocooned on an island echo chamber with themselves, a hysteria prone media and notions of British exceptionalism.

May they be conquered soon.

You know I’ve been thinking of the British empire, circa 1583 - 1997, and how we can view it in retrospect. A small island and big empire, with lots of impact - many of it negatively - around the world.

Anyway a thread to discuss how you may see it.
"British" empire seems a bit false. Scotland and wales contributed (and continue to contribute) nothing.
