The Dead Thread

You know in a lot of sports, the progress of the athletes is remarkable, look at the Baines vs Pat thread, honestly there should be no debate due to the advances of coaching, diet etc etc. Batsmen in cricket are far superior today. But Boxing, no, it peaked around their era, and will most likely never be bettered. A prime Foreman or Ali or Frazier would knock every single boxer in today's game out of the ring in minutes. Tyson might come close, Ali said he wouldn't want to fight him.
When Tyson was on the juice and dedicated he was a Tasmanian devil in a phone box fighter. Could tuck up and get close and unleash bombs in an era where the big lads didn't know how to handle such an oddity. But he was a steroid user. To throw civil rights and segregation into the mix, the eras of amazing american boxers coincide with the African american lads not really being all that welcome in a lot of sports (outside of being world class in their field) and so boxing at the time was a funnel for a lot of talent. The u.s. doesn't make boxing champions like it once did. Olympic or professional. Rorming around on the floor in mma seems to have the attention of the masses currently. I don't knock the skill but it doesn't quite have the elegance.

Listened to his interview with Lennon a few times over the years. Amazing to think he Sat down and spoke with him about his life and future plans that close to his assassination.

….yep, the last interview Lennon had. Reminds me a little of John Peel bluffing his way into the Lee Harvey Oswald conference after the assassination of JFK, Peel said he was a reporter for Liverpool Echo.

It wasn't the last one, close to last. Andy interviewed him a couple of days before his death. Dave Sholin and Laurie Kaye interviewed him on the day itself. The video below is the full last interview recording on 8th December 1980.
