The Dead Thread

.....I fear there has been more criticism than acclaim, many seeing it as a money spinner when the author was reclusive in her nursing home.

Go Set A Watchman was the original novel written, apparently. The publishers didn't like it but suggested that she had another go but setting the story around the time Atticus's kids were young.

Pretty darn good second attempt........

.....you say 'apparently'. I think there is a lot of conjecture about it's validity and some cynical views that it was a pure money spinner published when Lee was in no apparent mental state to authorise it. I don't know but I have chosen not to read it. The indication is that Atticus Finch is a totally different character to the one portrayed in Mockingbird'.

The only certainty is that Mockingbird is a great book.

Great shame, terrific writer, Name of The Rose and Foucault's Pendulum are two of my favourite novels.
My favorites too. at times made impenetrable by dubious translating, but fantastic all the same.
He had two libraries both dating back to medieval times, one what roper historical books, the other mad conspiracy/science/magick stuff.
Some of his work on Semiotics was pretty damn good as well.
