I've been lurking at a few Everton forums for awhile and it's become obvious that GOT is the one to join. In my period of lurking I occasionally thought I should comment, but didn't want to fall into the trap of just saying something to say something, if that makes sense. But then I thought ... politicians and actors have little of value to say so how could I do any worse?
I'm from Boston ... the U.S. version, not the UK. So how does an American develop into a follower of Everton? Well many years ago, I had a friend named Bob Everton and for some reason from then on I started paying attention to Everton (football, not Bob
), but not yet a fan. This was before the advent of the internet so getting information about UK football wasn't exactly the easiest task.
Eventually former US vice president Al Gore invented the world wide web (or so he claimed) and football of the world was brought into my den. After a few years, I was able to actually watch games and I just kind of evolved into an Everton fan. It will never be like growing up in a family split apart by a Liverpool vs Everton rivalry, but I can still feel the frustration of Moyes leaving Drenthe out of the lineup as well as any person sitting in an obstructed view seat at Goodison Park.
I also follow the Bundesliga and Serie A since I am equal opportunity fan. Well maybe not quite equal opportunity since I don't pay much attention to Spain.
So I look forward to chiming in on a topic every now and then, and enjoying my time here. Cheers!
And I almost forgot... if you prefer pinapple on pizza, do you also like grapefruit on toast?
