Again, I never really collected much, then or now. I tend to keep to the things that improve my character and flog the rest.

Same. Although I tend to sell stuff instead of just dropping it in some random place. But then again I keep getting over-encumbered so I end up having to do that anyway.
 

How long does Lydia hang around for?

She's vanished. Bish was carrying tonnes of my stuff too.

We were clearing out Fort Greymoor and she vanished. Pretty sure she didn't die, as she's nails and we were only fighting a bandit.

I've been back everywhere and she's just... gone. I hired some bald nord goon from Solitude but it's just not the same.

I went back to Greymoor and now it's full of Imperials living there....
 
She should be at your home in Whiterun, if she's not or you don't have the house yet, she'll probably be at Dragonsreach in Whiterun.
