The Everton Board Thread 2014/15

Is it time for change?

  • I'm happy with the way thing are. Kenwright and the Board should stay.

  • Kenwright and the board need to go. We need change.

I posted a list of questions in the Echo thread, but one of them in particular we need answer to - what's going to happen Sir Philip Carter's shareholding and place on the Board now that he has passed on?

Im sure he made a will, his shares will be passed on to his family and his place on the Board isnt important in the grand scale of things.

No idea about the Board replacement but as Sir Philip only owned 714 shares (2% approx) what happens to them is almost an irrelevance.

even if we do well next season, the club as a whole is still a mess, but if we do well, alot of fans will be happy again and the board will get away with another season, unless they removed now..i hope.

Moyes shielded them a lot. The frustration on the terraces is palpable. If we have a poor transfer window and a poor start I think we'll see fan discontent unlike anything seen in recent times.

But this is the problem isn't it? Has been for over a decade now. Fans are easily pleased by a good start to a season? Why should that play any role in the inept performance of the incumbents off the pitch? This is what frustrates me about Everton supporters in general. Not having a go at you as you are making the statement...but Everton supporters as a collective need to wake up!

That was one of the BU's problems when they started. The team on the pitch was doing "ok", so a lot of people were like "why are you protesting now?" I realise some people just want to focus on the matchday, and are really NEA about the board, but the BU, in my eyes, were right to raise awareness of the issues when they did. To wait until things had gone tits up on the pitch may have been too late to do anything (and would've lead to accusations of being reactionary).

I don't have an answer, I just think we're too submissive as a fanbase. Too used to disappointment, living in the shadow of the other lot, etc. Excuses-a-plenty for inaction and passive acceptance.

Exactly what the Board have fed us from day one, and they are banking and playing us all on that.
Fans need to wake up and stop acting like dumb sheep accepting what they are fed...

Totally agree mate, but fans wrongly associate success on the pitch through the manager with the board. Moyes was infuriating for always dangling the carrot of success but never quite getting it. It kept the fans hooked though and at times he did do well there was a feeling of 'well if we go and get an upgrade on Moyes we'll win despite this board'. I think people have started to realise now though that all those fifths and cup quarters are never going to turn into fourth and trophies under this board. Martinez arriving showed that even with a new manager and a 20 goal striker it's not enough. This season has shown though that the board are more than willing to accept mediocrity so I think more fans are coming round to that even though it's been evident for a decade.

The fans pick and choose when they want to voice their opinion, but i guess this is primarily to do with the split in the fanbase.

If the 'Board OUT' people spoke up last Season (5th place), they would have been absolutely abused, the season just gone, not so much.
Pressure needs to be put on consistently, not just when we look absolutely awful on the pitch.

When the inevitable supplementary explanations began to be offered those sceptics began to grow as expensive medical equipment, lawnmowers doesn’t show as purchases or being leased in the accounts whatsoever. But it’s all academic because the level of the other operating costs wasn’t what was being queried in the first place, the 86p in the pound and every comparison made with other clubs is irrelevant because the real question concerned why the other operating costs doubled in a single year and despite in the first year they rose being attributed to the move to Finch Farm. Not only have they stayed at that level but they’ve steadily increased

  • “I’ve not got the big money, but I promise to find investment” (January 2000) — Nothing in 15 years.
  • “The NTL deal is secured” (September 2000) – The deal collapsed.
  • ”I wouldn’t sell Rooney for £50M” (June 2004) – Rooney was sold 2 months later for a deal worth £27M.
  • “The Fortress money will be in the bank in the morning” (EGM, September 2004) – The investment deal from Fortress Sports Fund collapsed without explanation.
  • “Kirkby will be a world class arena, effectively free and with the best transport links in the UK” (AGM, November 2006) – The proposed move did not materialise due to funding issues.

Are you sure it didnt say Directors wages.

I thought it said each Director got paid 350k.

It's 350k in total under "emoluments" so might be for one, or split between more of them. Just can't see Kenwright, Carter or Woods taking a salary or charging fees

I'd guess it's fees for services rather than a salary, but it'd be interesting to know what it was for and who took the cash.
In principle I'm not against directors taking money out of the club, but only if they're doing something which is generating more for the club than they're taking out.

Having said that, assuming it's Earl, it's hard to see a justification for it.
