Player Valuation: £50m
So this week we heard a lot from players and the current Manager as well as talking about it on here. My questions are simple.

What is The Everton way?
What do fans want? In terms of play style?
He gets the Club. Is this important?

Tbh I have no idea what The Everton way is, it use to be playing great football and excepting to win matches and trophies. Now it seems it’s Punt it to the big man.

I want a team that plays a good attacking style of football similar to the our neighbors, a 433 style game with pressing and passing and non of this lob it 40 yards to the striker every time anyone touches it

He gets the club.. seems like a load of hog wash to me, I want a manager that knows how to win and makes us win wether he an Evertonian or not is irrelevant I just want to see a winning team with a winning manager.

What do you guys think?

We often hear carragher and neville etc say everton are a team that aren't quite top 6, we beat the odd big team, and should play dogs of war football, and that we should aspire to play like that.

A load of codswallop. It suits their narrative that Everton should never aspire to play silky, successful football, only the 'sky six' should be playing that way according to them.

Maybe not now, but when we steady the ship and get the right coaching staff in place, there is no reason why we can't aspire to be successful whilst playing attractive, effective football, which isn't mutually exclusive. We have to settle for cr@p football right now as we don't have the players or the smart coaching needed to play good football.

If we don't get relegated, we don't have to be a dogs of war team next year. Getting the right players and coaches in isn't rocket science. Look at wolves at the minute. They're playing an effective (2nd best defence in the league) attractive enough style of football after less than 1 season under a new coach. Why can't we do that next season?

The Everton Way now has become dogs of war, launch it into the box and get stuck in.

Martinez tried to change it but ultimately failed.

Because he was at the helm. there are other coaches out there other than martinez who could have us playing good, effective football, and sustain it over a few seasons with the right personnel recruited.

Everton are the school of science. They're a steel fist in a velvet glove. There should be exhilarating play with artistry, yet be based on a steely will and absolute determination. Think Alan Ball. Think Neville Southall. Think Alex Young. Think Andy Gray.

It's not pointless huff and puff like today. It's not absolute pathetic capitulation under the fat Spanish pig. It's not even pragmatic underdogs without belief of Moyes.

Joe Royle's team "dogs of war" was the last Everton side to at least have the mentality of winners but we'll never know what he could have built as he left because the owner sold him down the river with regards to transfers.

So that. Won't be an easy task. Won't be a quick task. But I want the School of Science back and not a phoney Martinez version but the real deal.

Every single team in the country claims to have "a way"

I dont care how we play as long as we win : could be tippy tappy, could be counters , could be all out attack

Just a consistent style would be nice
True. The West Ham way was soon forgotten now that moyes has them competing in the top six.
We have probably had a different way every decade. Football evolves.
Frankly money buys success. If you want to win the occasional trophy amongst the big teams, you need to find a style of play and buy players to suit. You have to be prepared to sell the best player and reinvest successfully.
We haven’t been able to pick a player since moyes has left. Occassional hey we have stumbled across them but it’s a
Case of Chuck enough mud something will stick.

Totally agree and that’s part of the problem, we gone from serial winners to, well Evertonians just want 100% commitment, which should be a given

People only care about “the way” when results are poor and / or the football is putrid.
Brentford, Brighton and even leicester are living their best life now and not concerned about what’s gone on ieven a decade ago.
Get someone one in, play with a bit of desire and get results. Challenge for 6th-8th spot and build from there.
I am resigned to the fact that league victories are out of our reach… the best we can hope for is the occassional top 4 spot and cup run. A run in the uefa cup would be good to.
Fact is that too many clubs have too much money. Unless the overlords decide to put a billion into the squad

It's a load of bollocks.

Teams like Arsenal, Leicester and those horrors we're cursed to share a City with have done best in recent(ish) times when not being beholden to their past and letting letting the right manager do their job, instill their methods and style into the club.

No room for sentimentality in football. Everton don't seem capable of learning this.

It’s a subjective question.
For me the purpose of sport is entertainment through the pursuit of excellence and trophies are the reward not the sole aim.
Defensive football as an occasional tactic is acceptable but to watch it every week regardless of the quality of opponent is counter to the spirit of football, as well as boring.

Very true, but this clubs obsessed with it, filled with ex players who arnt the best person for the job. A chairman and CEO who arnt the best people for the job and an Everton Legrnd on the board because he played for us

Arsenal are worse now than 10 years ago
