The loan myth

A couple of sources claim that Lukaku's loan fee is around £3m, which is the same as Chelsea were asking for Ba. If West Brom and West Ham both wanted him this season then he must be affordable.

I know we only have him for a year but say we signed someone on a 4 year contract at the same sort of level. What would £12m buy us? Surprisingly Remy, Bony, Giroud, Rodriguez, Benteke, Adebayor, Lambert and Eto'o all cost that amount or less, so maybe it is a false economy, especially given that those players have resale value.

I'd like to see Swans go down just so we might be able to pry Bony or Michu from them. Beneteke seems to be falling out of favor but I think he'll cost a good 15M at least (which i would do even if it means we can't spend any more).

We need a good striker(s) to get anywhere near 4th. Look at the RS. Besides the strikers who would you put in the midfield and back line into our starting lineup? Replace Sturridge and RatFace with a couple of avg strikers and they are mid-table.

Remy would cost 12m. Yes. But he'd request 70-80k per week. Everton won't pay that.
Bony is useless.
Giroud? Meh.
Rodriguez? Sure 12m will get you him. But is he good enough to start? Nope.
Benteke for 12m? The touted fee for him last year was 20m, with bids starting from 15m at least.
Adebayor? 12m? Sure you'll get him for 12k provided you can pay him 150k per week, and provided Spurs want to let him go.
You'll get Lambert for less than 12m deffo. But he's 31? Paying 5-7m for a 31y o who isn't much spectacular is a waste of money.
Eto'o? Yeah you could even get him on a free. On 150k per week wages or more.

I was referring to how much they cost their current clubs as a gauge to whether £12m would be enough to buy us a decent striker.

We could also have brought andy Caroll for 15m & 85k a week to then have him able to play only 230mins of league action and not score any goals - there are examples on both ends of the scale.

IMO the loan of Lukaku has been a good use of money and that of Traore a dreadful one. The purchase of Kone so far looks like a waste of money, the purchase of McCarthy a sensible one. But all these are with the benefit of hindsight, not sure I would have had the same opinion on each of them going into their loan/purchase.

He's on 120k at Chelsea an reports at the time of signing him was that we were paying the bulk of his wages, so I'd say 100k. 100 * 4 * 9 = 3600. So that's 3.6 million. I suspect we DIDN'T pay a loan fee because of his wages. As for Traore's wage, that's stupid. We would had cancelled his contract by now if we were paying all his wages.

More than sensible. The kid is brilliant. I think we got him on the cheap in todays financial climate and his age.

Absolute bell:

http://metro.co.uk/2014/03/26/why-everton-are-out-of-order-for-signing-so-many-loan-players-4679258/

Everton deserved their victory over the Magpies at St James’ Park but the flattering scoreline highlighted the growing problem of loan players in today’s Premier League.

Newcastle United are no stranger to the loan market and it’s no secret we struggle to convert chances, as we did in the Everton loss, without leading goal scorer and short-term striker Loic Remy from QPR on the pitch.

The Toon also brought in Luuk De Jong in January to reinforce the forward line, although based on the last night’s showing, it’s unlikely we’ll be following up interest in the Dutchman long-term.

Going into the game the two sides looked closely matched but by the final whistle it was clear there was a huge gulf in quality. The pace and skill of Gerard Deulofeu caused problems for Yoan Gouffran and Paul Dummett down the left-flank all night. The power of Romelu Lukaku bullied the Toon’s beleaguered defence from the first whistle.

In the middle, England international Gareth Barry picked out the forward thinking Ross Barkley and the Everton attack time and time again. On-loan Chelsea striker, Lukaku is one of this season’s stand out strikers and has found the net 12 times with a record of a goal every other game.

Deulofeu, on-loan from Barcelona no less, played a part in all three goals and was a constant threat against the Toon. Barry, on-loan from Manchester City, was a stablising presence in the Everton centre-midfield and arguably allowed the marauding Barkley the freedom to destroy the Magpies’ defence in the manner he did for the opening goal.

Gerard Deulofeu is on-loan from Barcelona.. no less
A third of Everton’s starting line-up were on-loan players from the world’s elite clubs and their whole team is built around them.

The victory wasn’t exclusively down to these three starters but they all played a huge part in the win and almost certainly made the difference on the night.

Take nothing away from Roberto Martinez. The Spaniard is proving to be more than capable of filling David Moyes shoes at Goodison Park – and was irritatingly endearing in the way he praised the Toon players for their efforts in Alan Pardew’s enforced absence before kick-off.

But without Lukaku, a world-class striker who would be beyond Everton financially if they were to attempt a full transfer from Chelsea, as well as Deulofeu and Barry, the Toffees wouldn’t be anywhere near a Champions League spot.

Other clubs have players on loan, Newcastle included, but none have had greater impact than at Everton.

The Football Association need to address the Premier League loan system to stop it having an adverse affect on the table.

If you can't be bothered to read I'll do a short version:

Newcastle fan gets annoyed that our loan players are better than theirs.

haha irony is unreal - they would be fighting relegation right now if they didn't get remy in on loan - no dooubt about it. they finished 16th last season and although cabaye was great, he's only played half the season for them.

we beat them 2-1 in this fixture last season without said loan players, so NEA.
