I think Martinez must be desperate to run the rule over the squad at first hand before plunging in too fast. He may see things differently to Moyes concerning who's a non-runner first team-wise. Obviously he must already have a fair idea where about defo needs attention, like.
Do you watch us or football in general billy? Your ideas are way out there....Osman or Barkley RW? Eh! Guaye and Naismith? What! Heitinga? Pfft! Don't get your thinking mate at all...
Anyway my opinion is...
First Yes 100%, we need another GK as a priority. We only have Howard. Ideally if funds permit and the right quality is available we need a younger option to Howard who can challange him and eventually replace Howard. If none available a free stop gap for a year to play back up is the minimum required.
At the back, Heitinga needs to go. I dont care if hes played a world cup final or had 3 good months for us, hes a poor CB. Probably so too does Duffy on loan. Stones is mooted as a possible future CB, but will be nowhere near our central defense next season. Nor to will hibbert unless of some major freaky injurie scenario. I also don't see Martinez going 3 at the back. We need 1 or 2 CB coming in (lescott & alcaraz) would surfice. 5M
In Midfield your presuming fellaini goes and Fer is the replacement next to Gibson. I think Fer looks a good signing. I also think Martinez will re-jigg our midfield to play a 4-3-3 with a deep lying CM (Gibson) and 2 CM just in front a box-to-box and a playmaker (Fer, Osman, Barkley, pienaar) fighting it out for those more advanced roles. A back up for Gibson is needed (unless lundstrum is ready).
As said I think he will change to more of a 4-3-3, meaning our wide men pushed further up in a 3 pronged attack. Mirallas on the left (his best posistion) and sign a new striker and RWF as well as a winger/forward for back up. Selling Naismith, Guaye and maybe even jelavic.
Age is irrelevant. He's 2 years older than fabregas and Wiltshire when they were doing just that anyway. And I didn't say he should be running the show for us, but I don't see why he shouldn't be considered as a reserve in what will be his best position in the future.
Thats what worries me tbh will he spend too long deciding what to do before bringing in players, add to that we will most likely have a new formation to adapt too he needs to bring the players in quick and get everyone used to playing together etc surely he sees if anything we need a striker
David Son, hes got a 46" tele in his office, he will have watched every game we played last Season.
Well thats if he wasnt sunning himself on some beach.
Why havent we sacked this fella yet?
If Kenwright's tale about Heitinga is true, then I'd say you're spot on here Dave.
What is this?
I'd say apart from a CB replacement for JH (which he's moving to fill with Alcaraz) the backline is not an issue for him. A #2 keeper, CM with plenty of pace, and an attacker will be necessary regardless of what's in the reserves right now. He can move swiftly for those (which must be being addressed even as we speak) once he pays the courtesy to the existing squad of looking at them. I think that's good management as well, by the way. No use starting off on the wrong foot.
I was reluctant to ask, tbh. I hope it doesn't involve pool parties and loofers.
Fabregas started becoming a regular in 2005-6 aged 18. He'd made his debut 2 years earlier and played regularly in the cup competitions. He was schooled at La Masia, very mature and surrounded by players like Gilberto, Vieira and Henry.
Wilshere was loaned to Bolton aged 18.
I don't think it's a coincidence that both players came through at Arsenal.
Moyes has spoken of Barkley lacking maturity and about how his year out with a leg break has hindered his development. I think he should be making appearances for our team but central midfield is the engine room and it's difficult to bring someone into the game in that position. I'd play him on the right to begin with, where he would have more freedom to get forward and express himself. If he made mistakes or didn't track back it would be easier to contain than in the middle of the park, where the opposition would be straight at our back four. As he grows into it we could then give him more responsibility centrally. It seems to be working for Coleman.
Soldado? I don't think so.
