So, Hamilton sneaks it from Alonso! Well in Lewis!!!

Lewis Hamilton had played second fiddle to McLaren Mercedes team-mate Fernando Alonso throughout practice, but when it counted, the Montreal race winner showed his pace and claimed Pole Position for the United States Grand Prix.

It was an all McLaren battle for supremacy again, as was the case in Canada a week ago. Alonso had enjoyed a flawless weekend, topping the timesheets in all three practice sessions, but Hamilton stopped the clocks with a best lap of 1:12.331s, 0.169s ahead of Alonso.

As Hamilton enjoys his second straight Pole Position, the Ferrari team seemed unable to take up the challenge for the pole, but will nonetheless be relatively content to line up on the second row with Felipe Massa ahead of Kimi Raikkonen. As it stands, the F2007 is no match to the MP4-22 in qualifying trim.

As such, all USGP talk (probably by myself ;) ) will be contained right here.

Heres to waiting for the race to begin tomorrow.

only 5 hours to build up (ish)

I am looking forward to it once again.

COME ON LEWIS (y) (y) (y) (y) (y)

its looking close now lets see if boy wonder can live up to the hype? come on lewis win the f***ing lot lad.

Another great win for Lewis. I managed to get home in time from the relies to catch most of it.

DC got smashed on the first bloody corner though :(

It was overall a fairly boring race. EXCEPT for the awesome battle between Alonso and Hamilton. Great stuff, the commentators compared it to Prost and Senna, while I think that was going a bit far, it was some good racing :D

Oh, and Ralph Schumi proving yet again that he is absolute [Poor language removed].

:O !!!! take that back!!! Ralf schumacher is great!, gibve him a good car and he'll do well, he proved that when driving for BMW, and beat his team mate montoya, he just has a crap car. Hes great.

Hamilton - great win, fairly basic, but he did wel to keep his nerve when alonso tried to over take him on turn 1.

Another point - I hate Alonso, He is a good driver, but he is like lampard- over-rated. To blame the team (not this race, but last one) is stupid, he just wasnt good enough last race or this race.

So, if Ralph is so great how come his team-mate outpaces him at every given chance? And when was the last time Ralph finished a USGP? Add to that his arrogant attitude, he is in real danger of being fired.

Hamilton's win was fairly basic???? Him and Alonso never got further than 2.5 seconds apart (except pit-stops) and it was attack and defend the whole way.

As for Alonso, he is a great driver (you don't win 2 world titles back to back by being just good), but he isn't anywhere near my fave. But him and Hamilton are doing the job for McLaren right now, you can't deny that. I think last race he was trying way too hard and over-cooked it a couple of times, but got away with it.
