What happens if they fail their third and final attempt at landing ? They have to divert to the secondary/alternate airport on their flight plan ?

No idea. It’s not like there’s going to be anywhere especially close to land today that would be any better.

Many airlines have procedures that prohibit a 4th attempt at a landing, to stop them using all of the fuel reserves to the point that a diversion to a safe destination cannot be made. The flight plan will have at least one alternate airport for them to divert to. The pilots will look at the alternate options on the day before the flight, and make sure that the alternates have suitable conditions (today, an into forecast wind runway). If they need to have the alternates changed on the flightplan they can do.
