An article about a fired Boeing engineer who is now coming forward (it seems they always do that after they're fired) saying that Boeing's new 787 Dreamliner is unsafe because the composite materials wouldn't hold up in a crash compared to current metal frames (I'm paraphrasing...read the article).

I guess what made me laugh is that if you're plane hits the side of a mountain, it really isn't gonna matter what the plane is made of now is it?

"Damm, we'd have survived that if we were in an old metal plane."

"Yeah, they don't make 'em like they used to."

On a separate note, old Dan Rather still trying to drum up some ratings after being dumped by CBS for trying to take down a sitting President with fake documentation. Dan, when will you ever learn?

I agree Chico.

I've looked at all of the artist renderings of the exterior/interior and it looks like it's gonna be a winner.

My favorite aspect is the much larger windows so you don't have to bend your neck at some weird angle just to look outside.

I can't wait.

20% more economical on fuel consumption. Much lower carbon emissions, the air purification in cabin/lighting system will ensure you arrive at your destination with less jet lag - its a new generation aircraft.

Airbus will be kicking itself.

Composites supposedly make the plane lighter and more fuel efficient. Given that we get most of our oil from the Middle East wouldn't using less fuel save more lives?

I'm pretty liberal so I don't have much love for the practices of some corporations but I always love it when people come forward after the company fires him/her or after the company tanks when there is nothing to lose.

I remember when the media was making that Enron accountant (Sharon Watkins?) out to be a hero (named Time person of the Year for Christ sake!) for writing a letter to Ken Lay saying that the comp is dirty and it will collapse in accounting scandals as if he didn't know that by then. WOOOHOOO YOU GO GIRL!!!! Way to take your findings to the media and alert those stockholders before the company went to pot. She was in on the scam too by keeping her mouth shut until she no longer was getting a paycheck.

Airbus had Boeing by the balls but got arrogant by building that flying battleship. Its going to take 15 years for them to recover from that.

The two planes are different ways to solve a problem.

Boeing: more composites = lighter weight = less fuel

Airbus: more passengers = fewer journeys = less fuel.

Massive PR offensive from Boeing on this aircraft they're doing a good job
