The table below is after 17 games in last season, Newcastle we were told were Gone. They're 25 points better off this season !!
On January 18th 1984 a certain Adrian Heath scored an equaliser against lowly Oxford to save the job of Howard Kendall, the rest is history. Personally I don't see Maupay or DCL doing the same for Frank !! Although the winner against Palace last season should of been DCLs 'Inchy Moment '

I’ve never heard that January 1984 story before, but it really makes me reconsider my position on Lampard, perhaps he just needs one last chance to see if he can replicate Howard Kendall’s success from 40 years ago.

It's a good point that things can change quickly, but last season we knew Newcastle had the ability in that team, and the money to spend.

It's like this season when Leicester was down there.

Newcastle also made a master-stroke in crippling Burnley, unexpectedly activating Chris Wood's release clause late in the January transfer window. Had that not happened Dyche may have just scraped survival.
