Thought this was a really good article about the difficulties faced trying to manage millionaire footballers

Above all else, you need to be an astute tactician and show careful consideration towards individual players' strengths and weaknesses and use this to formulate a way in which said players can collectively work together on the pitch effectively. To this end, they also need to be coached properly.

For me it really doesn't matter how little or loud you 'shout' as long as the above is covered.

The principle of what's being said is true, but using Ferguson as the example is a bit weird as I think it's fairly clear from everything that he's said and that's been said about him that he isn't really that type of manager/coach. It's also a bit weird for someone who - I assume - wasn't ever a professional footballer to suggest that people who were professional footballers are wrong about what used to motivate them. The world has changed now, and modern players won't respond to those methods, but you don't have to go too far back to the days when they did.

I think the article misses the point.

The faith in Ferguson isn't to scare them into playing harder by fear of facing a beating. It's hoping that his passion and willingness to win can be communicated to people.

A charismatic leader that people are willing to join and follow can 100% get better results from certain people. And Ferguson is definitely a loyal, charasmatic and most importantly, respected and likable person who people admire.

He gets a bad rap because of his reputation, just as Everton have for decades.

Don't think that aggressive approach worked even 30 years ago look at the amount of players Alex Fergi fell out with at Utd and had to get shut of
using big Dunc as an example beating home intruders up is way off the mark these players here obviously like and respect him
telling home truths when there is an obvious issue is a million miles away from getting someone in a choke hold

Bag o'[Poor language removed].

A LOT of, probably way off the mark, assumptions made about Ferguson there, even if the thrust of the article is probably correct.
