I watched this morning the heartfelt thoughts of the parents of young Rhys Jones. The way his dad described how his new school uniform and unopened calculator ready for him to start senior school next month were still around his bedroom- was tear jerking to say the least. It was really emotional to see the pictures of the young lad in about 4 different Everton tops smiling like any normal 11 year old would. This lad was shot while football training a few hundred yards from his house and was shot by teenagers on BMX's!

Now this morning I hear about a police car being shot at after a routine stop and search in Gloucstershire. A BMW wound down the window and opened fire on the police car.

A couple of weeks ago a man was snipered while on the motorway.

Last week a mother and her two year old child were knifed to death.

Every other day some teenager is being killed by knife by another teenager.

Teachers are starting to wear stab proof vests to teach in schools.

A friend of mine was stabbed last year- twice in the back and then luckily only a graze to the head as the guy tried to stab him in the temple. What was my friends crime?! Walking home a girl that this guy fancied. My friend was walking her home when the guy had quitely stalked him in a car until they were somewhere secluded and then crept up behind him and stabbed him in the back- what a [Poor language removed] coward!

2 months ago I was burgled, the person who did it came through my front door at 4.30pm in the afternoon. They walked out of my front door with my 38" plasma screen. I arrived home at about 4.55pm- so I missed them by about 20 minutes. Would they have got out of of my front door if I had arrived earlier- would they [Poor language removed]!

Now what Im getting at is this is a scarey time, violent crime seems on the increase and it is mainly teenagers and youths that are doing it. So what to do?

I dont agree with the punishment of parents in every case, each one should be done on case by case situation. Ask yourself the amount of people you know that are 'bad eggs' but there brother/sister are perfectly good respectable people?! They have had exactly the same opportunities that their siblings have had but choose a different path.

It starts in schools and the lack of discipline and RESPECT. When I was at school (Im only 27) I went to a fairly hard all boys school and the teachers ruled with an iron fist. In fact my favourite teacher was a 6'3" ex rugbly player who taught Maths. People didnt [Poor language removed] with him, he commanded respect and the pupils gave it to him. For the two years he taught me Maths I learnt more due to lack of pupli disruptions etc than any other teacher.

Teachers wearing stab vests- WHAT THE [Poor language removed]!!!??

My sister is a teacher and one of her pupils grazed her knee- she wasnt allowed to put a plaster on her knee in case the parents sued her- WHAT THE [Poor language removed]??!

It needs to start in schools and the installation of respect and manners at an early age. The cane, detention and the 'hair dryer' treatment should be brought back. well thats what i think anyway...

Nicely written piece and pin points what I believe is the direct cause of the increase of violence in today's youth. A severe lack of respect.

whats the hair dryer treatment??

and yeh i agree with all u have said !

its where you stick a youth in the bath if they've been naughty and drop a hair dryer in it.

nah its you stand them infront of you, make sure they don't look away and give them the bollocking of their lives.

Spot on, and if they are good at it there will be a bit of spit as well- makes even less enjoyable.

respect is earned not commanded.

all too often being feared is mistaken for being respected.

my school was full of cowardly pricks and bullies, and the pupils werent much better, i will harbour ill feeling towards a select bunch until my last breathe.

deliverance becomes the patient man.

but some people need to earn that respect... like in bad lads army... a lot of them come in with the worst attitude ever, get treated harshly at first, but earn rewards slowly.. and end up respecting their seargent

i disagree, yes respect is earnt but to command respect (not demand) is a quality few have.

My school had bullies too, but when teachers caught them they were expelled immediately after being dressed down. Kids knew where they stood.

bad lads army? its a tv program.

the way i have heard is that the military personnel can be quite militant.

what a coincidence.

Mick, thanks for saving me writing so much today, you have eloquently reflected so many of my feelings. When I first went to school I was caned with a snooker cue by nuns at age 5. As school progressed so did the level of corporal punishment until the ultimate was reached, the whalebone strap, try that across your backside and you'd soon learn. My generation appears to have far more respect that later ones but the twist is that these kids kill each other for not showing respect, they don't even know the meaning.

How do we take the streets back, we can't mate until normal straightforward folk are prepared too stand up and be counted, who can blame them for being silent if they, or a relative, get shot in revenge? That I am sure is the atmosphere presently at large in that area of Croxteth, many people know the culprits, their parents included, but no will come forward through fear.

IMO we should amend human rights legistlation to ensure that it only applies to those that earn it.

Its gone too far now, compensation culture has eroded public morality. I see it loads, but unfortunately its the 10% that get the headlines and not the vast majority who are sound.

We also have to offer a special thanks to the media and the Political Correctness brigade.

Agreed Chico, one politician suggested that we stop offending youths applying for driving licences, as if any of them would be worried by that, a get real pill should be invented:angry:
