it is a myth, name one player apart from mcmanaman that martinez has brought through from a clubs youth set up in near 10 years as a manager.

Plus Mcmanaman was like 22 when he eventually gave him game time.

Iv heard him spout stuff like training programmes were they need to do a billion training sessions and 50 loans before they are first team ready.

In my opinion we should at least always have 1 eye on playing a couple of the 18/19 year olds. Just have 2 spots on the bench for a couple of them, you can even rotate who it is throughout the season

Thats very unfair. He may not have strictly have brought them through himself but youngsters like Joe Allen, Tom Clverley, and Ross Barkley were all given their proper chance under Martinez. Swansea back then and Wigan didnt really have the resources to have a steady youth set up anyway.

You can see whatever you want about him, he has enough flaws to do so, but there is no doubt that he is willing to give younger players an opportunity.

There are clear signs though that he's scared of playing young players that have come through our academy. Playing Hibbert at LB last year for example, and the fact that the echo are reporting we're likely to play Hibbert at RB against the RS instead of Connolly. We have a group of players that won the U18 league 2 seasons ago and none of them have started a game for us yet.

sorry if those 3 names are your only evidence for that i think you're losing the argument. he'd rather sign a has-been crock like carrick this summer if he still had a job than give davies or walsh a run of games in my opinion.

You dont just throw kids in like that and you are totally ignoring the fact that our team is littered with young promising players like Barkley, Stones, Ged, Lukaku, Besic, Galloway etc.

As I said Martinez has enough issues to deal with without us throwing in issues that are not there.

As I said, IMO it's an issue with players that come through our academy, not ones he's bought. I can't deny that he does focus on buying young players. I just find it strange when we do stuff like get drawn against a league 2 team twice in one season and play a team full of old and recovering players that are on their way out of the club instead of giving some academy players a chance. The only one we played was Pennington, who got dragged off at half time.

You know nothing about Niasse. I would assume you dont know if Duffus, Dowell or whoever are ready for the first team either. So yet again you are having a go at Martinez over stuff that hasnt happened which i find to be utterly bizarre.

He has also signed a lot of young up and coming players (Lukaku, Ged, Galloway, Mori, Robles top name but a few) that I assume we are ignoring too.

Listen if you dont like him fine, I get it. But there is no reason whatsoever to have a go at him about stuff that has no basis due to it not actually happening.

Well maybe, I assume he thought they were not ready yet. Also he has to give some of the players in and around the team game time as well.

To be fair his cup record for us is decent enough so far that whatever he is doing seems to be working.

As previously mentioned that any manager in the league would of given Barkley, Stones, Lukaku & Geri games. They are 4 of the best players of there age in europe!
I think it is a case of he isnt willing to trust a young player ahead of an older player and use there xuberance to his advantage.
He wont really give a 17 year old or 18 year old a chance, he thinks that you have to be 20-22 before you can even get a sniff of the first team!
Look at Garbutt and Browning, both almost 22 and barely got any sort of a chance other then the odd game here or there!
By that time they have either become disalusioned with it all (possibly Garbutt) or that inexperienced even at 22 that you cant take a risk on them
