Try gargling salty water. I used to get throat infections all the time and it really sooths it. Bloody disgusting though and make sure you dont swallow any!

There's also this antiseptic spray you can get for sore throats that has this long end that you can point to the right place in your throat and spray... stings for a few seconds but numbs it a bit. Kind of the feeling you get from eating a strepsil without your mouth and tongue going numb.

There's not much else i'm afraid though.

Be careful taking antibiotics as they kill not only the bad bacteria in your body but ALL bacteria. Taking a 'good bacteria' food supplement (you can get this from Holland and Barrett) to replenish the good bacteria in your body after you've finished your course of antibiotics.

If you get throat infections a lot, and take antibiotics a lot without replenishing the good bacteria in your body it can have a funny effect on your health. I had antibiotics regularly over about 8-9 years for this same problem and it totaly [Poor language removed] my immune system, and also gave me alergies to certain foods like dairy, yeast, wheat etc.

Best thing to do is get yer tonsils whipped out if you get it a lot. Is this the 1st time you've had it, or do you get it often?

Go to hospital, get them out, sorted

Not that easy... they are very relucant to take them out. I was on the waiting list for several years.

i know what to say now tho to get them to take them out so KingJo if you want to know what to do let me know mate.

cheers --- this is the first time i've had it, feels like ive tried to swallow two golf balls

If you can swallow them take 2 paracetamol and 2 ibuprofen 4 times a day. The paracetamol will help with the pain and Ibuprofen is an anti inflamitory, so will help bring down the swelling (although that will take a few days also).

You can take Paracetamol & ibuprofen together as they aren't the same thing and dont react with each other, so dont worry about taking both together.

I would be wary of taking to many ibuprofen as they take the lining off your stomach(y)

LOL! Only if you take then constantly over a long period of time. Thats like saying i'd be wary of drinking Alcohol as its bad for your liver. They would only be bad for your stomach if you abused them or took them for long periods at a time. I dont know of any studies that show taking ibuprofen for 1 or 2 weeks will destroy your stomach lining,
