Gwladys St. Glory

Some like it hot...
After being released from my recent hospitalization, I've been doing more walking to get things back in order (it's amazing how quickly normal function abandons you after a week of being bedridden and MRI'd, poked incesssantly by "the vampires" and generally been treated as a lab experiment). Being in the medical profession, of course the other half bought me a pair of Hoka's because they're all the rage with the nurses (not kidding probably 70% were wearing some version of them). Although they're fine to wear, I'm going to claim queen bee status and assert the fact that I'm not keen on their visual asthetics and am looking for a more streamlined, comfortable walking shoe.

I'd put this in Karl's thread as folks are more civil there but I would like to hit a wider audience, so I'll have to deal with the inevitable BS likely to ensue. Having said that, what is your walker of choice? Normally I'd go New Balance or Asics but there's a million brands out there.

Generally I like generic adidas runners like supernovas for regular walking, or a trail shoe like Brooks Cascadia, but I don’t know much about fashion. I actually have some Terrex like Goat linked but got pilloried on der Twitters for my color selection so I don’t know much about trabs except don’t ask people for their opinion on them. That said, recently I’ve been walking around in sambas and really enjoying the fit but that might not be good post op.

They are at a popular, large online retailer here, Zappo's. ;)
Nice, all the lids wear them round here and I honestly dont do fashion, but everybody kept telling me how comfy they were and they very much are.

Disgusting amount of money for a pair of trabs tho, thankfully mine were a Christmas present, Christmas 2022 now I think about it and they still very much going strong.

Yeah, right up there with these Hoka's. I expected it, seems to be the going rate now.

Without stating the obvious mate, the reason most of the nurses wear Hoka`s, is that they`re on their feet all day and walk miles during the course of their day to day. I got my missus into them and she swears by them now - she`s got two pairs, one for work ( nurse ) and one for the gym.

You really won`t get a better lightweight cushioned shoe - I`ve got loads of different types for my running.

As they`ve become popular for certain work places, they`ve started toning down the colours, so you don`t have to wear a rainbow on your feet.

They also do boots in certain styles too, which I`ve never worn, but heard good reports about.

The Italian company - La Sportiva, do some good stuff too ( pricey though )

Love my Hoka, probably because aside from being very comfortable they are just plain black

Where you walking and what are the condition?

If you're dry and just doing fairly casual pavement pounding a set of runners aren't bad. Quite like mizunos.

If it's peeing it down and you go on trails/grass etc something a bit more durable. Some on here swear by Adidas Terrex.
