Transfer Window Thread

Are we just completely ignoring the 2 players we signed before the window opened then? Or...
Christ. Sorry Mr Elstone. If you think at this point with 10 days to the start of the season that 2 players on last seasons squad, taking into consideration those that have left, is enough. Then I strongly disagree.

Everton have rejected Chelsea's latest £25million bid for John Stones.

The England defender was informed of the offer being turned down on Tuesday prior to playing in Everton's friendly 2-0 win over Dundee. Stones remains relaxed about the situation although it is understood he is interested in the move to Stamford Bridge. Chelsea will now consider whether to make another bid,

Everton remain in the market for at least one centre back and want someone with pace. They have been linked with Dinamo Kiev's Aleksandar Dragovic but Roberto Martinez is weighing up other options and Celtic's Virgil van Dijk is among them.

Martinez wants to bring in three new players including a striker and playmaker and is battling to keep hold of West Ham target Kevin Mirallas and James McCarthy too. Tottenham and Everton have held tentative talks over McCarthy but no bid has yet been placed for the influential 24-year-old.

One is inevitable, however, with Mauricio Pochettino keen to sign the Republic of Ireland international. Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has been on holiday in Miami but is joining up with the squad in Colorado to discuss Pochettino's transfer targets. They continue to evaluate players in Germany but have reservations about West Bromwich Albion's Saido Berahino.

a day after saying he wants to buy two.

It depends on confident Martinez is of Browning/Galloway being good enough to be 'third choice' centre back. If Stones does go, and he is confident in that pair, then we only need one top class centre back. We then have four CBs for a domestic season without european distractions.

Might be worth the risk to just go with those four and spend the money elsewhere, i.e. a quality striker, a creative midfielder.

30m would get us a starting XI striker, creative midfielder and centre back easy, plus a half decent CB on loan.

Then our squad is sorted like.

Be nice to get rid of all of the deadwood that is currently taking home about 200k a week in wages despite literally never, ever playing a game.

Please, call me Bob. I don't think it's enough, no. But I also think we haven't completed our business either. Like you said there's 10 days left until the season starts and there's another 30(?)odd days until the window shuts and have already got 2 key players in IMO.
Don't get me wrong, if westill haven't strengthened towards the end of the window I'll be fuming too.

There's no requirement to sell Stones, despite the best efforts of the nation's news desks.
We'll keep him unless someone offers £40m+ at which point it would be ridiculous not to sell him.

i don't see any way of chelsea offering what we would deem acceptable. not this window - they're not exactly desperate for him this summer - we would have known if they were.

Exactly. He's staying.

The frustration here seems aimed at the club, rather than the hacks who have determined that they'd rather see him play at Stamford Bridge

wages are gonna be the problem on that one, stones is prob earning less right now than all the potential players youve listed there...

Where have we been linked to Quintero?

Just been looking at that Quintero again on you tube and he is something else. He would have us near the top 4 Lukaku would be on for 25 goals easy, count me in did not realize he was so good. Van Dijk and/or the guy from Keiv, Quintero and a striker on loan and it would be happy days.

Van Dijk isn't who we should be looking for either. Not as a replacement or even as a back up player. Its been said before i know but he plays in a very average league and when up against any decent team, he gets found out. There is better out there and cheaper too....

Infact, i wouldn't even look at signing any defenders at this point. I like the look of the lads coming through and think they could save us a few bob. We should be concentrating on further up the field with whatever money we have available.

Players need time to settle, get up to speed with partnerships, patterns of play, set pieces, communication and what the club is about. If we're giving players at home to Chelsea or away to city we WILL be in trouble, and much like last year the season can very quickly become a write off
