Hello all, an Aussie here.

Not much of a traveller but have 6 months off from work this year so am taking the chance to come across to Europe. Basic plan is Prague - Vienna - Munich (Oktoberfest) - Berlin - Amsterdam then back home to work ?

I’m hoping for a future trip the missus will be free as she has family in the UK, hopefully the new stadium is open then so I can finally see us live in England (caught us in Melbourne years ago - think Magaye Gueye scored so it was a while back…)

Was wondering if there was anything people would suggest is worth doing, places to see, things to do etc as my planning is a little…uninformed.

Could expand beyond this trip of course, for anyone coming Down Under you should definitely enjoy the coastline and South West of WA.

Thanks :)

If you’re doing Vienna it’s worth taking in Budapest as well , just along the Danube. Bruges and Brussels are easy to do by train from Amsterdam , and there are some nice places in southwestern coast of Netherlands . I’d recommend Italy too, Rome and Florence as a minimum , maybe the lakes area Garda/Como to chill for a week , you’ll be knackered travelling six months around Europe .Really so much to see . Depending on your budget there are some good cruises too e.g. Danube cruise taking in Vienna/ Budapest , western Mediterranean taking in Rome/ Florence/ Barcelona , Baltic cruise Copenhagen / Tallinn/ Helsinki / Stockholm. I’m sure you’ll get more suggestions than you can cope with !

Unfortunately only around 3 weeks of the 6 months is Europe-dedicated, the rest is hiking my way around Australia!

If you are doing Vienna to Munich, I would definitely head direct west through Salzburg (musical and cultural heritage) and Innsbruck (get to see some proper mountains on the edge of a city) before swinging north through Mittenwald and Garmisch up to Munich and giving yourself up to massive overpriced mugs of beer and roast pork knuckles at the Oktoberfest.

I'd advise sorting accommodation for Oktoberfest very early, like now.
