Starts with a blog from John Lundstram. Seems like a good lad, level headed. Will be interest to see what Stones has to say too.

Thought these may deserve their own thread but merge if you think not mods.

John Lundstram provides first Blog from Turkey

Midfielder John Lundstram is first up as he talks us through the past few days…

It’s brilliant to be taking part in a World Cup. We’re buzzing. At the end of the season I had a week off and went to Mexico, it was just a chilled out break really in preparation for this.

The squad all met up at St. George's Hall for a few days and then went back there last week when the preparations really started before we came out to Turkey. We had a nice welcome when we landed at Antalya airport too - traditional Turkish dancers were waiting and performed as we arrived!

We trained for the first time out here yesterday and we’ve had two sessions today.

It’s roasting! We’re not really used to this weather but it’s nice to get some sun.

The weather definitely affects training. You’ve got to be drinking fluids all the time, although the games are at night time so they are a bit cooler. At this World Cup they’re trying to have drinks breaks in the first and second half.

We’ve just been back and forth to the training ground so far but the hotel we are in is really nice. There’s a pool and a bit of a water park with some slides. Other than that there’s not much to do so we are left to our own devices during the free time.

There is a barber's shop in the hotel but I don’t think anybody wants any dodgy haircuts!

I’m sharing a room with Chris Long, another of the Everton lads. He’s a good lad that I know well from our time at the Academy.

Luke Garbutt got a late call to join us which makes five of us here now. We showed in the Under-21 league that we have a brilliant set-up as we got to the semi-finals, so it’s no surprise we have a few players in this squad.

It makes it easier having so many of our players here and I know a few of the others from being with England Under-19s, but they are all a nice bunch of lads in any case.

You’ll always get little groups that stay together on internationals, but us scousers always stick together - even with a few of the Liverpool lads! We obviously know some of them from living around the city. We mix with the others, of course, but you tend to find the scousers are always together.

There is healthy competition for places in the squad and that’s good for us. It keeps us motivated to do our best in training and when we get chances.

England Under-21s have received a bit of press lately after they were knocked out of the Euros in Israel. Other people might think there is now pressure on us to perform, but within the camp we don’t feel that. We’ve just got to prove again that we are good enough and we believe we are good enough to go all the way.

Before our first group game on 23 June, we have a training match against Uruguay on Sunday. It will give us a chance to get used to the weather more as well as playing with each other.

I’ll let the other lads update you on things over here next week!

John

I know we harp on our youth a lot and the lack of chances they received under Moyes... but really, really... I hope some of these lads get a run out in the first team under Martinez.

They need loans at high level clubs to get that adult football experience. Lundstrum does look very promising and IMO could take hitz's posistion in the squad, whilst also trying to get out for some loan action here and there.

Thanks for that.

Just for you here is the installments from Luke Garbutt the young left back we reportedly paid dirty Leeds a cool million for...

Luke Garbutt is the latest Everton young gun to provide an update from Turkey where England are preparing for the start of the Under-20s World Cup.

He picks up from John Lundstram who offered the first exclusive evertonfc.com update last week.

Left-back Garbutt took the number of Blues in the Young Lions squad to an impressive five after receiving a late call-up last week.

He talks us through what was a whirlwind few days…

I was on holiday in Ibiza with a couple of my Everton teammates when I got the call from Peter Taylor last week.

He wanted to call me into the squad because one of the lads [Sam Byram] had been forced to pull out through injury. I told him that I would be more than willing to join up with the boys because I knew what a great opportunity this is.

Peter had already phoned to say that there could be a few injury doubts and if anyone did get injured in defence then I would be getting the call. I obviously kept that in my mind but I didn’t honestly think I would get the chance. Once I did though I was buzzing because it’s not often that you get picked for a World Cup. I’m going to cherish this moment, give it my best shot and enjoy it.

It’s even more pleasing to get this opportunity because, from a personal point of view, last season was tough for me. I was a bit rusty when I came back from my injury at the start of the year but I slowly managed to get back into it. I still don’t think I have reached top form yet but I think that will come with the more games I can play.

So I got the call on Tuesday, flew home on Wednesday and then got straight back on a plane to Turkey on Thursday. It was a hectic few days!

When I got here, I wasn’t nervous. It was excitement more than anything. I have played with England at almost every different junior age group so being part of a squad wasn’t anything new to me. I’ve played in a couple of European Championships before so this is just the next level up.

I hadn’t done any football training for two weeks so it was a bit of a shock at first, especially with the heat, but I feel as though I acclimatised quite quickly once I met up with the squad.

To be fair, we have been training really hard. The manager has pushed us so that we are used to the conditions and are playing at a high tempo in readiness for the tournament.

We got a run-out last night against Uruguay and it was good for everyone to get at least 45 minutes and win the game 3-0. I played the first half and I thought that I did okay considering that I had just linked up with the squad. Chris [Long] took his goal well so all the lads are pleased for him.

Today [Monday] has been a day off. We’ve been chilling out around the hotel and have managed to get a bit of sun on our backs. We’ll be back training tomorrow with a double session because the first game is less than a week away.

We just need to keep working hard now and hopefully that pays off because I think we have a good chance to go far in this tournament. We have got a set of honest, hardworking lads and, on the pitch, there is a lot of quality in the final third.

We are all looking forward to the start of the tournament now.

Luke.
