Unfullfilled potential

Deffo Billy Kenny, as others have said he looked to have the lot and should have captained us through the 90's. Unfortunately for us and him his mates dragged him down.

I'd also say Jeffers though. He was a real diamond those first couple of seasons. Shame he's a class a bellend and it all went to his head. Definitely wasted his potential.

Rodwell. Looked the real deal as a teenager but I was actually pleased with the fee we got for him when he left as he didn't look like he was going anywhere and so it turned out. It's a shame as he had all the attributes of a good player as a youngster.

There's been many , obviously Billy Kenny , the big one James Vaughan but for the injuries.
Lately Lewis Warrington looked to have everything rising through the ranks , still only 22 and will have a good career.

Guys like John-Paul Kissock and George Green who were touted as potential worldies yet vanished into thin air before they ever really got going.
What made Rooney different from players like those 2, is that Rooney could compete will grown adult players. Look at how he was able to win ball back after losing it to Sol Campbell, when he got his 1st goal. A lot of young players look good playing against kids, but having to mix it up with adults is a different story. It's why Barkley has never got to Rooneys level, because he doesn't have Rooneys brain and aggression. Barkley couldn't calmly put a 70 yard pass to DCL to get a penalty at Anfield. A lot of young players don't have psychology to make it.

The teenagers will need to ask their grandads about this one but round about 1976 we signed an Irish youngster from Home Farm in Dublin name of Martin Murray.

The hype around this lad had been incredible for months and every major team in Engkand wanted to sign him.

He was dubbed the “new George Best”.

The world appeared to be at his feet and we were all very excited with his signing.

Alas Martin was Evertonned 😞

I don’t think he ever made a first team appearance, even as sub.

…..not sure if Michael Branch has been mentioned, he looked to be going to the very top. His Dad signed for RS at the same time as me and he was a classy defender so I was chuffed when his lad came through at Everton. Unfortunately young Michael has had a few dark periods in his life post-football.

Thought he was way out of his depth. Touted as being the same kind of Michael Owen rapid finisher and looked like a lightweight kid with nothing about him.

Remember against Derby seing Daniel Sturridge look like a world beater compared to Branch.

We made a couple of high fees for young keepers that tanked.

Richard Wright and Steve Simonsen.

Was about to post about them.

For me:

Keepers: Simonsen / Wright.

Defenders: Dunne / Unsworth / Ball

Midfield: Parkinson / Williamson / £3mil kid from Arsenal that apparently was actually £750k ? / Grant / Barkley / Rodwell

Attack: Oster / Rodrigo / Cadamateri / Jeffers / Rooney / Lookman

Special mentions as well for Materazzi, Dacourt, Speed and Bakayoko. All for different reasons.

Tempted to include Bilic and Nyarko but they can GTF.
