was in the pub talking to a kopite friend of mine. From being the most pro Raffa red you could meet he has now changed his tune, feeling the club needs a fresh start.
However no surprises in guessing, he also wants rid off the Americans. Apparently no decent manager would go near Liverpool with the current owners.
So I challenged him. what do kopites honestly expect from new owners? Out of the so called top 4 only Chelsea had a net spend last summer, with 18 million Zhirkov being their only player of note. Utd lost Teves and Ronaldo making a 70 million pound profit over the summer. Arsenal likewise made a profit in the summer of 30 million by selling Adebayor and Toure.
In comparison to Arsenal and Utd, the [Poor language removed] didn't have it bad at all. But it is not only the top 4 who are putting the brakes on it is the whole of English football. City massively distorted the spending over the summer for the whole of England. City were a massive anomaly in the league.
If Kopites want new owners, who are going to give the manager 40 million to go and spend in the summer they will be the only ones. Nobody else will be spending huge sums in the summer without recouping (other than city). Yet they find it disgraceful and a real injustice that they are unable to blow tens of millions of pounds in net spend when everyone else is doing the exact opposite. Have they not seen West Ham, Portsmouth, Hull, Valencia; clubs who are real reflections of the here and now.
For new owners to come in to Liverpool and hand a new manager a massive transfer budget it would be against everything that is happening right now in football and the Premier league in particular (top 4 included.) Yet the kopites don't just want this to happen; they fully expect it. And if it doesn't everyone else is to blame for the gap extending between themselves and everyone else; other than the incumbent Red [Poor language removed] manager.
Its like someone who has been burnt by a loan shark trying to get out of the mess by looking for another loan shark. deluded isn't the word.
