Player Valuation: £8m
According to reports circulating out of England, the U.S. national team is being lined up to face England at Wembley Stadium on May 28.

Currently ranked No. 12 in the world by FIFA, England qualifies as the Top 20 opponent U.S. Soccer president Sunil Gulati stated the U.S. team was in talks to play prior to its friendly against Spain. The United States will face Spain on June 4 at a site in Europe yet to be determined.

At a press conference prior to Wednesday night's match against Mexico, Gulati said there was a 50/50 chance, at best, of the friendly before the Spain match happening. Gulati would not reveal the potential opponent, saying only that it was a Top 20 team.

If England and the United States do meet it will mark their first meeting since England posted a 2-1 victory at Soldier Field in Chicago on May 28, 2005.

For those keeping track, this could mean the United States is lining up a trio of games including England, Spain and Argentina (Yes, Argentina appears to be the front-runner for the proposed game in the United States around June 8th in the Northeast United States) before its first World Cup qualifier in June.

That would be awesome for the USMNT to face Spain, England and Argentina as we head to World Cup Qualifying

I had read about Spain and the Argentina possibility but hadn't heard anything about England until now.

I would be a very good test for our players. It's well known that the USMNT has a horrible record on European soil so playing more and more games against top European opposition can only get us acclimated to the pressures of those types of matches. We still may not win any of them but the experience will be invaluable for our World Cup preparations and especially for some of the younger players.

in that case, why play england?

England, despite current form, is still considered on of the top international sides in the world.

I actually think Capello could do something with this team.

Either way, playing England at Wembley, no matter how poor England's form is, would still be a challenge to any side in the world.

Nice

Let's face it if USA got those 3 in the first fase of the WC. they'd call it 'the group of death'. I wouldn't fancy England's chances at this moment in time. I'm hoping Fab can do something for England, but my (Italian) father in law reckons he won't last 6 months.
So England are 12th, are they. You do realise that sort of makes us the Newcastle utd. of international football. It fits though, doesn't it? you know, big fan base, hardly won anything and that was decades ago, think they've got some divine right to be up there with the big boys, loads of overrated, overpayed players and a considerable proportion of fans who are quite frankly embarassing.
But what the hell, we were talking about America, weren't we? Yeah, the better the opposition, the better the experience. Except when the gap is too big coz then it may be demoralising. This however is defo not the case with USA, who are nobody's whipping boys nowadays. I mean, 50 odd years ago, a team like England would have hit double figures against USA. Well, ok 4 or 5. Alright, but we'd have beaten them. Wouldn't we?

This is great, alot better than Arenas policy. Arena's idea of a "road game" was playing in a city that has a large hispanic population. I would also like the US to face teams that they might have go up against in the WC group stages to advance into the round of 16. Teams like South Korea, Australia, Croatia, a solid South American team (Bolivia, Paraguay, Chile) and a good African team (Ghana, Egypt, Ivory Coast).

Irony

Rook, I was being ironic. 'Gaetjens' scored the only goal on 38 minutes and the American goalie, 'Borghi', saved a penalty from Stan Mortensen in the
70th minute.
Takes anorak off and quietly leaves the room:D
