Valencias sending off for Wigan

Anyone see this? What exactly did he do to get the first booking?

The [Poor language removed] had a free kick, he was waiting to charge out at the ball when it was played. The ref blew his whistle, Alonso passed it to Gerrard who was too busy shouting at the ref to send someone off, Valencia then ran out and cleared the ball which was in open play.

Once again the [Poor language removed] beat 10 men.

I'd comment but I can't say it any better than this:

from the guardian

Mark Ashurst, Observer reader That was an absolute disgrace. The league's corrupt. We can't have teams like little Wigan coming to Anfield and upsetting the applecart, can we? We were outstanding in the first half, Zaki scored two fantastic goals – he's on a different level to anything Wigan have ever had – but we didn't get a single decision in the second half. If they hadn't scored the winner, we'd have played till they did. The sending-off was the turning point. We were 2-1 up and comfortably in it. Yes, the tackle was reckless but the first booking was a joke. Gerrard asked for a free‑kick, and what the England midfielder wants... Alonso touched the ball, Valencia stepped out of the wall and got booked for encroachment. The crowd seemed to consist of Irish and Scandinavian tourists with cameras.

Not often I agree to everything in a quote, but that kinda takes the biscuit. Good find Rooks. I concur.

I didn't see it so reserve judgment. But I would concur with the point that what Liverpool or Man Utd or Chelsea or Arsenal want, is often delivered by hook or by crook. There is something rotten going on, and the sooner video technology is introduced, the better.

I had a thought at work today. With this being the year that Man U can equal the shites record of 18 titles all the biased rs at the FA dont want it to happen.

They would nobble Man U but they know Fergie would never stand for it and that Chelsea would win the title if they didn't.

So they are just gonna do everything they can to ensure the [Poor language removed] get as many decisions and things going their way in games cause if they win it they go back to being 2 titles ahead of Man U.

It was pathetic. Alonso only took about 18 minutes to take the free kick and did starting pooching it forward after the whistle. There was no malice or danger in Valencia's tackle.

I don't think its a RS thing though. Its just Mike Riley, who I'm starting to think makes Clattenberg look semi-competent in comparison. Riley is such a star-[Poor language removed]. He's the dope who initally called a penality on Arsenal against Fulham; got surrounded and by 8 Arse players and magically remembered that the foul was outside the box (it was in the box by 3 yards). Since that day he just goes out of his way not to offend the big clubs and just left every call go their way. No small club has a chance when Riley is the ref against the big 4.

Did Sir Alex say someone is getting sent off in the derby when Riley was the ref and low and behold there goes Cahill.
