Valente: To sell or not to sell?

Player Valuation: £950k
I'm reading [speculation] that Nuno is on Saint-Etienne's shopping list. At 32, he doesn't seem to have the pace for the Premiership, and is known to get caught out from time to time. Clearly Baines will be first choice, and Moyes seems to prefer Lescott over Nuno; so, do we cash in?

Personally, I like Valente, and when he's good, he's very good, though he is prone to the occassional mistake. I'd be inclined to keep him, if only because he offers experienced cover down the left.

(Of course, for the purposes of this debate, I'm assuming the story I've read has some grounding in actual fact; it could simply be that his agent fancies one last payday, and sees the signing of Baines as a chance to move his client on. Damn, now I'm speculating).

Yeah I can see why speculation would surround Valente, but put simply we can't afford to lose him. We only have two left backs at the club and Lescott needs to be used in the middle this season if possible.

He's still international class as well and I definitely prefer Valente at the club to Naysmith.

I'd not sell him either. He has pace and when fit he's a good LB, Boyle need a year or two more before he's really ready to challenge Baines for the LB position.

Also Valente have international experience and that is needed in our european adventures.

he is not dead wood by a long shot. he is too good for us to release him. he can also play left mid. i would be very surprised if moyes let him go.

We cant afford to sell him, besides he's a class player. Admittedly the premiership maybe isnt his best stage, but he's still worth keeping.

No way. No more losses we couldn't bring in his caliber for what we have in him. A little slow tracking back but if the injury bug hits we will need him. To bad he had a less than stellar pre-season but he can and will bounce back. He could be used in midfield also if needed.

I'd like to keep him at least for another year but if we get a too good to refuse offer then maybe as he probably won't be first choice and has shown a propensity for injuries recently.

sell him, hes terrible, not going to get any better, having him in the team would give us a disadvantage, id prefer to play neville in that position if we were desperate enough...

I can't see this being a good idea. He is fantastic going forward, has a great long ball and is decent defending(save the one or two mishaps he has had his hand in, but then again, Lescott has had a couple too). He may be over 30, but he still gives us something, and if anything can pass his experiance onto Baines and help him develop.

baines neville and captain of the reserves boyle.

hes done alright for us has nuno, and his passing and crossing have been greatly appreciated. now might be the time for a move becasue slowly but surely he is getting found out for pace sadly.

great left foot and a classy pro.

Nah keep him.

We're getting ready to compete in the UEFA Cup in addition to all of the domestic campaigns and there's the thought of selling another player?

No way. If anything, we need to be net buyers at this point with a striker and midfielder heading the list.

We're set at defense and Valente is one of the reasons for that.

I,d keep him for 1 more season and hopefully when he gets match fit we will see a different nuno

Agree. Next season Baines will be established, Boyle will have gotten some more experience and we can still play with Lescott there in a pinch.

We've already sold/let go of Naysmith and Pistone. No need to deplete the LB position even more... especially when they all have a good potential.
