VAR

Interesting that Pawson's comments on the pitch are very dismissive
'Not for me, not for me, not for me'

Do you think a bit more of a 'Not for me, but it will get checked' would be a better level of communication to the players?
What I`m not getting is that after listening to that audio they say the defender put his foot in front of him and DCL kicked the back of his leg and therefore its not a pen.
But to describe what what happens when you trip someone, don`t you put your foot in front of someone and they hit the back of your leg?

As already said on here if the defender has put his leg in front of DCL and DCL has kept his natural line, he has been tripped up. There was no attempt at the ball it was very clever play by defender. Risky but but worth it if you get away with it.

Right, I'm not saying it's a pen, but if a player is in full sprint, and a player sticks his leg out(he doesn't initiate the contact) so that the player clips it, it's a foul and a trip.

Why is this different? So if you are dribbling it's a trip, but if you are in the act of striking the ball at the same speed it's not?

Yeah it’s grey area this one. But in real time he should have given that penalty and let var overrule it. It’s what would happen if it was the rs

That`s the reason VAR has not worked so well. The main focus of the people in charge of football at the moment should be to clean up the rules of the game so that any rules that have grey areas can be made to be completely clear. Instead they are way too focused on making more and more money out of the game and ignoring the problems that are there already.
I`d like to be able to hear in real time what the ref and VAR are talking about during the game. It works fine in rugby. You can hear the ref explaining clearly what decisions are being made and the reasons for making them. The big reason for not doing so seems to be because of how players react to every decision that the ref makes, but I think that the best way to have players behaving properly towards the officials would be having this in place like in rugby and it would cut down on players being aggressive towards the officials knowing that the audience can hear their reaction, which might ease the pressure on some refs when making a crucial call.

I agree. Saying “not for me” does not explain what he think he has seen

Another thing that makes the video ref system work so well is that the discussion between the officials is very clear and to the point. That difference was highlighted last season in the Spurs RS game when the audio was released for the goal that was given offside.

I can’t help but think with Doms gangly giraffe technique he provides enough doubt for the ref and VAR to deny the pen. Also why’s his backlift got to be so high? It gives Burn a chance of getting his body in the way.

Unfortunately, football referees don't know what they are talking about so no such logical conversation is likely ...
