Hey, i'm thinking of getting this camera for my Mrs for christmas. Panasonic SDR-SW20 Digital Video Camera - Digital Camera Warehouse Australia It should be good cause it's shock proof (she can be a little rough) and waterproof (so I can take it snorkling).

I'm not sure about the SD card though are they any good for videos or should I be looking at some other form of media.

i have a sony harddrive camcorder and it's the type with xray nightvision.

you can get SD cards that hold up to 8 gigs, so yes that is plenty of space you should be fine

On a serious note. The camcorder should be digital, write to a hard drive, be HD, optical focus of at least 20x, ignore claims of 400x 800x digital zoom as that is a waste of time. As for stills the size of the memory card needs to be at least 4 gb but the mp for stills needs to be at least 5.

So I ended up buying that video camera for christmas. Took it snorkling at the GB reef while on holidays and it got water in it, meant to be water proof.
