Violence at the games

All this s..t and they gave Russia a World Cup as well. You really couldn't make it up.

Gazprom is major ueafa sponsor. Plus probably there were never any country (for sure not in last 20-30 years) awarded a major tournament or Olympics with no dirty business behind

I have no problem with the nutters getting a kicking if that's what they went for. But they are such a small minority of the 100,000 English supporters over there. When a man and his wife with a couple of kids gets dragged into it I find it somewhat difficult to understand........yet they all get tarred with the same brush......

Exactly. It's the minority.

Those who tarnish all England fans the same are essentially racist.

To make it light hearted for a minute, can just imagine the scenes in the Square in Liile. In one corner, England Russkis and French kicking off and in the other corner Cardiff and Swansea kicking off with each other

Vladimir (Lokomotiv hooligan), who is married and have two children, has returned from the battleground at the European Championship finals in France, and does not care that Uefa have threatened to disqualify Russia.

– ‘Nothing will stop them’ – Many hooligans have little interest in the games and will not care if UEFA disqualifies, he added.

“I think it’s a decision that won’t influence in any way what hooligans do next,” he said. “Nothing will stop these people.”

Vladimir also told that he spent less than 48 hours in Marseille but “saw all the main events and took part to some extent”.
He estimated about 150 of Russia’s strongest hooligans flew to Marseille for the day for the England-Russia match. In total there were 500 to 600 Russian hooligans.

“It doesn’t matter which city fans come from or which team they support. It’s important that we’re all from Russia. We are going to fight the English.”

“The English always say they are the main football hooligans. We went to show that the English are girls,” Vladimir said.

He contrasted Russian hooligans with England fans — “big older men who drink a lot of beer.”

“Fans or hooligans from Russia are mainly younger, aged 20-30 and at home most of them are into sports. They do sports like boxing or all kinds of martial arts,” he said.

“The aim is to come and prove that English fans aren’t hooligans, they don’t know how to fight. A lot of Russian guys come specially with this aim.”

He stressed that while “the English use chairs and bottles (to fight), the Russian style is only fists.”

Using weapons “causes a lot of unnecessary injuries,” he said. “For us it’s like sport.”

“We don’t have a desire to kill or injure. There is a desire to show our strength.”

He also add:

“If you see a guy wearing a Russian flag or a Russian T-shirt, he’ll never be a hooligan.”

“A hooligan must dress to fit in with the crowd. I wore a shirt, trousers and leather shoes.”

Vladimir said French police were passive during the battles.

“I got the sense it was interesting for them to see the Russians to fight the English. They intervened at the last moment.”

He said he would only go back to see Russia play in the final and predicted that the other matches will be “a lot calmer.”

Other than any innocents of any nationality caught up in the violence, there's not a single group be it fans, locals, authorities or footballing officials that come out of this weekend with any credit at all.

It's the culmination of seriously bad planning, bad policing, UEFA incompetence, idiotic behaviour by many English fans, organised hooliganism and locals protecting their turf. Sadly as a result many innocents get dragged into the resulting melee.

It has to be said that those English fans, drinking for hours on end, singing vile and abusive songs aimed at locals, Russians and Muslims, they're behaviour getting louder and more obnoxious by the minute are complete and utter idiots. By all means go to England games, group together and have a laugh, but why draw such unnecessary attention to yourself with such foul and disrespectful behaviour? It's as if it's a deliberate policy to tick off as many of the local population and the authorities whilst in the full knowledge you'll inevitably draw in the trouble makers, the locals taking affront to the desecration of their territory, and rival fan groups itching for an opportunity to put their prepared tactics into use.

How the authorities cannot recognise this pattern and put either preventative, preemptive actions in place, or at least calming measures during the day who knows?

UEFA - why put such a high profile game in a place already full of tension and with a history of previous violence and play the game in the evening therefore allowing a full day's drinking and violence to stoke up the atmosphere? Why not insist on a lunchtime kick off like the Police sometimes do here, even laughably in the past for Derby games?

The threat to the English and Russian FA's is just laughable. UEFA's executive should be looking at their organising committee and the French authorities and demanding plans to ensure that this doesn't happen again, or at least plans to deal with developing situations should they arise.

It's been a bad weekend for the English as yet again we're saddled with the reputation and image of those idiots in Marseille, but it's a far worse weekend for the French authorities, for UEFA and particularly the Russian footballing authorities in the lead up to their WC in 2018.
As its Europe I would play it as a league with home and away. Not having fans staying for long periods anywhere. Too many can't behave and security concerns are too big at the moment to waste time with these biffs.

And to all the 'decent' fans. Sorry you are thick. We all know what travelling with England means so stop moaning, you have personal responsibilty for your safety as well. Who would take the kids to that?!!!

I've not been paying proper attention to news reports on this, but is there actually any evidence of English 'fans' starting any trouble?

All I've seen is a video of some lads standing around throwing bottles.... but its obvious something bigger has happened before that has been edited out (for whatever reason)

So is that a no then?

A couple of minor problems on the Thursday night, bottles thrown then police firing tear gas

Well thats all I've seen...... that hardly warrants us being given the same treatment (ie the threat of being banned from the tournament) as the Russians does it? Seeing as they've got squads of trained fighters out there with gum shields, weapons etc?

btw I don't condone any of the trouble at all... just wanted to know exactly what English "fans" have done that is as bad as the Russians... or the French for that matter. Can the French be banned from their own tournament?
