Transfer Rumour Virgil Van Dijk

He's never really stood out to me whenever we've played Southampton. But he would be better in a bigger team obviously.

Think we could get Lemos or Rugani for 20-30 million.

i'm more laughing at them than obsession. I would love for them to get van dijk and keita for a combined £130m, with their gegenpressing or whatever it's called, they'll still be one very likely injury away from klavan and henderson again.

i'm not envious of any other team's dealings so far, i'm not sure any have actually improved yet. City have spent a vast amount for the future, for example. We've plugged a lot of gaps on the other hand.

That's the difference though mate. We've plugged gaps. Like I said in my first post, it was a bit of a no brainer. Take our goalkeeper for example- I'm made up we got Pickford, but for a top team last year we had two of the worst goalkeepers in the league (and yes, even worse than Mignolet) competing for the number one slot! An issue we've thankfully addressed, but you and I could have told the club that. Hopefully we push on this year, and then next year we'll be in a similar position a lot of these other clubs are. We'll be trying to improve on Gana, Schneids etc. A much more difficult task.

It's hard to be envious of other teams dealings because so far they've hardly done any. And there's not much point as every club has different targets. But I can remember the fume when the initial Van Dijk story came out about him choosing the RS. Not addressing you here particularly, but I just think it's disingenuous to pretend we wouldn't be bothered if he went to one of our potential rivals next year.

Juve just lost Bonucci to Milan so I cant see them allowing Rugani to leave. To be honest, I'm surprised they didn't try and get Romagnoli to play next to him.

I think we will either go for;

Power -- Koulibaly / Sanchez
Class -- VVD / Lemos
Youth -- Diop / Sarr

We've replaced possibly the worst goalie in the league with possibly the best.

Liverpool have bought a Chelsea reject who had similar serie a stats to deulofeu.

SteveO, you have made me laugh, uncontrollably at times, with some of your statements on this thread. Obviously, they're your opinion and you are entitled to it. It seems other people aren't entitled to theirs without some sort of put down from your good self. But dealing in facts, you don't seem to really grasp the true meaning. Please explain to me how the 2 stats below are similar. I was surprised by your statement as I thought Salah had had a good season so took it upon myself to check (whoscored.com) which obviously you mustn't have. But if you're gonna make a statement like that, instead of making a fool of yourself, CHECK. I await your patronising put down for proving you incorrect with bated breath.
I bet you're surprised we got so much for Rom, as he had similar stats to Defoe last season. (In your world)

Keane is our power I believe, just need to put someone next to him who helps brings the ball out of play, not asking for a John Stones but someone who can play a little.

Mmmmmmmmm

Yeah not too dissimilar really. Especially when we consider the difference in the two sides. It's the fact that one datum point either way massively skews the final stats.

Just having a look at Mo's goals from last season. First goal is case in point. He gets a pitch perfect ball but somehow manages to head directly at the goalie but then the ball bounces right to his feet. He can't miss.

If he wasn't so lucky his goals per minute drops from one ever 165 mins to one every 177mins. A massive leap. There's another goalagainst Bologna (most of his goals are at home to weak teams btw) which was basically an og.

Take that away and his goals per min becomes 1 every 191 mins. He's now averaging less than one every two games in a very, very weak serie a.
His hat-trick goal was literally an open goal after the goalie helpfully palmed it to his feet. Not even going to take that one away from him but it just illustrates why figures should be taken with a pinch of salt.

He fouls a Sassaulo (remember what I said about the poorer teams) before finishing on the goal line. That gets correctly disallowed and his record is now 1 in 207 minutes.
Scores an offside goal against Pescara. REcord is now 1 in every 226 minutes.

He gets twoagainst Chievo where you have to ask questions about match fixing. The goalie literally just watches both of the shots. Not even joking, they are definitely suspect.

Take those two off and he now has a record of 1 in every 276 minutes.

Gerry playing in a weaker side, not had a few season to get to know his teammates got one goal every 365 minutes. Pretty similar to me.

Factor in the fact it's a weaker side and you could legitimately argue Gerry actually had the better stats. Just saying.

Didn't even mention the fact that both Lazio goals were due to fortunate deflections.

Kopites have built him to be some sort of saviour but Chelsea got rid for a reason quite frankly.

Bit like saying if me auntie had balls she'd be me uncle though isn't it.

Fair points there mate.

Will give you a different example then - kind of a much closer comparasion and why Salah may not be the saviour that the rs expect him to be

Eric Lamela - Roma stats
Played 67, scored 21, 13 assists, 4905 minutes
Mo Salah
Played 83, scored 34, 24 assists, 6587 minutes

So very very close on goals/assists per 90 minutes.

Lamela would generally be described as being 'a bit of a flop'

Both scored 15 in their last season in Italy before moving to the prem as well.

Potentially one of the most ridiculous arguments I've ever read.

Basically, if you ignore the stats, the stats make sense.

WOW. JUST WOW

It's only ridiculous if you didn't understand it. Just saying.

I understand exactly what you were saying. You were saying that the record states that Salah has scored a number of goals in the league, however, you don't agree with the official records cause you don't like some of the goals, so you disregard those one in order to make it look like you have a clue what you are on about.

Doing that just make you look foolish. Just saying.

If you had of said something along the lines of, "In my opinion, and experience of watching the individual players, they are performing to about the same level" then you can form an argument around it.
