Just a bit more on him,.

Johann Vogel (born March 8, 1977 in Geneva) is a Swiss footballer. He currently plays for Real Betis. Until 8th of March 2007 he was captain of the Switzerland national football team.

Vogel joined Swiss amateur club FC Meyrin in his youth but made the cut into professional football by joining Grasshopper. He was handed his debut for Switzerland on 8 March 1995 in a 1-1 draw against Greece. In his time at Grasshoppers, he usually played central defence or rightback although on occasion, he could be called to feature in a central defensive midfield role.

In his role as a defensive midfield player, in which he uses his ability to pass accurately and to effectively retain possession of the ball, Vogel can be counted on to add depth to either defence or attack.

Dutch club PSV Eindhoven sought his services in 1999 and he became a prominent member of the team until he decided to leave to join Italian giants AC Milan at the end of the 2004/2005 season. In his final season with PSV, he was noted for forming a formidable midfield partnership with Mark van Bommel and Philip Cocu where the club managed to reach the semi-finals of the European UEFA Champions League tournament.

Vogel played in the Euro 1996, Euro 2004, World Cup 2006 and has made 94 appearances in total for his country.

In August 31, 2006, he officially joined Real Betis club in an exchange deal for Betis striker Ricardo Oliveira. Vogel made his Betis debut against Athletic Bilbao on 10 September 2006 at the Manuel Ruiz de Lopera stadium, which Betis won 3-0.

Everton confirmed they are in talks to sign him on a free transfer after being told he could leave his current club Real Betis. [1] However the deal appears to be hitting some problems due to Real Betis wanting payment for the player.[2]

Hopefully the deal will go through. Despite central midfield being quite a full area of the squad his arrival would free up the versatility offered by both Neville and Jagielka.

It looks like Betis have just got greedy, probably due to the TV money so they think we will just throw money at the problem. I think we can safely bet Moyes wont pay a transfer fee for him cos of his age, so it all depends if those greedy ba**ards are gonna sit down and work it out with us.

I think they are just trying to pull a fast one. If they don't let us sign him then it will cost them more money as they will have to continue paying his wages as they will still employ him. Just a week or 2 waiting game I feel.

Yeah thats true. I just hope this doesnt attract the attention of other clubs which he may prefer to join. With his european experience I would have though many of the top euro clubs will know of him, and would consider it if any pick up any injuries.

It does seem like some other clubs entered the fray but I get the impression we are the only one playing in Europe which Vogel is keen to play. His agent is optimistic about the move to Everton has we have a 'good' offer in.

And hey! we share a birthday!

Hope he hang in there and we can force the greedy spaniards to release him for free instead. As Batman said above, we have a lot of DM players but it would free up Jags and Neville more
