VW Golf nuts

Anybody know anything about cars?

My Golf is whistling and it sounds like it's coming from the rear left side, and when I investigated the tyre there is nut missing.

How much and can I fit it myself?

What tune is it whistling?? AHHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHHAHAHAHA

Anyway, the whistling could either mean a slight hole in your exhaust or some fuel problem, a hole in your body work or just a window that isnt shut properly. Basically anything, without hearing it, I doubt anybody could tell you what that is.

I highly doubt the wheel nut is the problem. Just nip into :

Wirral Dane
1 Pool Lane
Bromborough
Wirral
Cheshire
CH62 4UE

And pick up a new wheelnut. Its very easy to fit.

Maybe thats the problem then, the discs/pads could be sticking slightly. That would make a slight noise. Possibly gonna need new discs or pads.

Im not a mechanic by the way, just worked with cars for years.

Oh yes, at least a ton.

Well I may be turning it in for a newer model as I have less than 6 months on the deal and they have sent me a letter.

Just hope they don't want to go through the whole finance credit check as I have been IVA for just over 3 years.

I'd chalk the squeak up to needing new disc pads - not sure what they run in the UK but a quick internet check ranges them from $30 to $90 for the rear axle. It's a relatively simple fix - at least here you can find a garage that'll do them for a flat rate - maybe like $99 out the door depending on the pads you choose.

You can still drive it no problem - if you feel/hear anything close to grinding, you need to have them checked. I believe there's an insert that gets put into the pads to squeak to let you now it's coming time for a change but that might be just a load of crap from my old man.

The Golf I sold not so long ago which was a MKIV had sensors on the brakes that let me know when they were wearing a bit thin. A light would come on on the dash. Not saying theyre all the same tho mate mine was a V5 2.3 if the discs are a problem he'll hear a grinding noise which is quite loud and he'll feel it vibrate in through the car when he brakes. I'd take the back wheels off and have a look at where the pads touch on to the discs. If its metal touching metal he'll need new pads and discs. Dont think that'll be the cause of the whistling though. If its a squeeky noice and goes when he brakes that might be dust and they'd just want cleaning off or it could be a bit of loose trim. Hard to tell without hearing it. I'd go the scrapyard for a nut they might not even charge for one. Just use the wheel brace to put it back in.

There are many things that can cause a whistle on a car , from a turbo to a hole in an air pipe .
It's possible that the noise could be your wheel bearing . The best thing to do is take it to an ATS or similar and ask them to check it .
They won't charge you for looking , especially if they think they'll get work out of it and if it is the bearing , it's not very expensive as long as you avoid dealership garages , and a bearing is something you could do yourself as it's only a nut and pin job .

Regarding parts , you can get things much cheaper from Motor Factors such as Jim Barkers , or D&E type places , though D&E may have gone bust .

My first ever car was a Golf .
I paid £250 for it , and by the time I scrapped it , it had 2 engines , and a complete respray and probably cost me about £1200 in total . Never again lol .

Think I will pay a visit to the VW dealer tomorrow and see how much the finance is on a Bughatti Veyron.

Like this ? Eeyuck  Birds car .

Sprinkle sawdust on the wheels, leave overnight and it'll be sound in the morning.

put some in where the oil goes as well just in case the noise is from there.

was it whistling dixie ?

mine was making a noise once, i just turned the radio up. thats what the balance and fade is for, so you can direct your noise more to the side the fault is on and drown it out.
