Watford vs Reading

I saw the goal on youtube yesterday. Pretty funny stuff, unless you're a Watford fan!

Video technology would have been pretty important that day.

That is a sham. The even crazier thing is that some papers are likening our goal against Hull to that one. Dunno about anyone else but the replays of Cahill's goal seemed to clearly show it crossing the line.

boothroyd should have brought his team in and [Poor language removed] off.

fixture abandonment is a high crime under FA rules, but with that replay proving them cheated, i wonder what the worst could have been.

yeah, i mean ref's get it wrong all the time, but the decision stands. same with the goal. wrong decision clearly, but it still stands.

For me, this is a result of human error, accidents are known to happen and will continue to do so.

If a player wins a penalty by diving and probably gets the opposition player booked, if not sent off in the process, do we call for the team to allow a 'walk-through' goal or to play with a man down in return?!... We can all see that refs make these mistakes almost weekly but teams don't get goals rescinded or matches replayed even though they didn't deserve to concede.

Watford were unlucky, but this was an honest mistake - nobody cheated - sometimes crazy things happen.

ie - the wrong Aalborg player got sent off just last week, there was that goal scored by the ballboy, Simunic getting 3 yellows in the World Cup match, Maradona's 'hand of God' and many many more examples have happened over the years including loads of goals scored off the ref.

Then they would have lost any points from the game and faced a hefty fine....

game abandonment means zero points anyway, and i wonder what action could be taken against the referee for willful abuse of the laws of the game.

sheff utd today won at the court of appeal against west ham for the tevez fiasco. i hope to high [Poor language removed] west ham dont have to pay a penny and that all compensation comes from the FA to the tune of 10's of millions.

why are players (sometimes) and managers the only individuals held accountable in the game? surely the so called officials and the governing body must also be held accountable for any sort of system to work.

"do as we say, not as we do"

facist hypocrisy incarnate.

I think you're right, it would be opening up a whole can of worms if the game was replayed, why replay a game for one mistake but not any others.

But it wasn't just any mistake, it wasn't a case of like Tims goal against Hull, it was a complete and utter [Poor language removed] up which could cost the team dearly so i'd say in fairness of the game it should be replayed but only in extreme unusual circumstances like this.

And out of interest, why was the Arsenal vs Sheffield United game replayed a few years back? What was different about that game that allowed it to be replayed. At least in that one the ball actually crossed the line.

Think that was the match where Sheff Utd had kicked the ball out so an Arsenal player could receive some treatment.

When everyone (including the fans) was expecting Arsenal to throw the ball back to them from the restart, Overmars ran through unopposed and scored.

Wenger offered the replay since the goal was distinctly unsporting.

Yeah it was. Don't see why that was replayed when the Watford/Reading game wont be. The FA say the refs decision is final and it doesnt matter if both teams want the game replayed so why wasn't the same reason given for the Arsenal/Sheffield United game.
