What a night I've had .
I got in from work about 8:30pm and the dog decides he wants to go out for a walk , so I reluctantly accepted and off we went . He's happy as Larry as we don't get out as often as I'd like after a series of back operations .
My dog is a very big staff and built like a tank , and is highly protective of me , especially when it comes to other dogs .
I get to the corner of the street , and as I turn the corner , what's coming the other way but a big brown pitbull type staffy , who's obviously escaped .
Oh nooooooo I say to myself , but it's too late .
The other dog is pleased to see us , and over he trots , much to the dissatisfaction of my own dog , who promptly tells him to get lost .
Well this other dog doesn't get the message , and figures he fancies his chances , and before you can say ' oh bollox ' as you do , I'm in the middle of a dog fight , and both dogs are capable of taking my hand off with one bite .
As if by magic , a bobby pulls up in his car , and rediculously asks me if the dogs are mine , just as I'm trying to pull the dogs apart before any damage gets done to either dog .
Well the bobby gets out of his car bless him , and I've got a dog in each hand trying desperately to keep them apart , and the poor bobbys bottle goes and he just stands there .
I'm telling him to grab the other dog , and he's so struck with fear that the poor guy can't think straight .
I can't blame the guy for being wary , as these were big powerful dogs here , not poodles , but of all the bobbys in all the world to stop by , I had to get the one who is Cynophobic ( scared of dogs ).
Just as I'm winning the battle to keep them apart , my back goes on me , I slip a little under the strength of the dogs in quite some pain and boom , off they go again .
I'm full of adrenaline by now , so I call the bobby a wimp ( felt bad about that to be fair ) for almost hiding near his car and dive in again .
By now , because I no longer have hold of my dogs lead , he is now at full strength and bowls the other dog over and is on top of it about to go in for the kill .
Like an idiot ( I'm a guitarist ) , I put my faith in both dogs not biting me , and launch my hands inbetween both sets of teeth and turn both dogs heads , before successfully separating them again , just in time for my neighbour to come out and help the bobby grab one of the dogs .
I'm full of blood on my clothes and arms , and feel like I've just been hit by a truck with teeth by now , as my back is killing me .
This poor bobby is still terrified , and I get the other dog into the back of his car and another cop car turns up .
The 2nd booby asks if I need an ambulance , and without thinking , I said " nah , I'll take him to the vets for a checkup "
The good thing is neither dog seemed to have suffered any serious injuries . Most of the blood had come from the other dog , and from what I could see was mainly from his mouth area where teeth had probably clashed , and my own dog had a bit of a nip on his cheek , a chewed ear and a bleeding dew claw , but nothing worrying , so all was good in the end I guess .
Looking back , I think how I could easily have lost my fingers , but Staffy's are the most beautiful animals you could imagine , and my thoughts were with them not getting hurt I guess . If I hadn't gone straight in with my hands , I think one of them might not have been so lucky .
I felt really bad about shouting at the bobby for just standing there , as he really was petrified , but really grateful he had the balls to pull over in the first place . Phoned the station later on and asked them to convey my thanks .
Back is feeling much better now , and my dog seems fine and chirpy enough .
Just hope the other dogs owners get him back and all is ok with him . My left hand fingers are a bit sore , as I must have strained them , but thankfully not a scatch anywhere else .
So that was my night .
How was yours ?
