What criteria makes a 'Big' club?

Plenty of posts about whether we're still a big club but what do people think defines a big club?

Entire history?
Recent trophies?
Stadium size?
Match attendances?
Global fanbase?
Wealth?
Current relevance?

No poll as I'm sure it's a multi-layered answer.

FWIW I no longer think we're a big club. Our trophy list is about as relevant as the Pharaoahs these days. Most players weren't even born when we last won a trophy. For me, it's recent trophies/current relevance.

All of the above. When City were down in the lower divisions they were still a big club and they hadn't won anything in years. Similarly Newcastle are too because they tick a lot of those boxes bar recent trophies.

Recent success does add the gloss on it though.

I’d go with this too.

There are no massive clubs with no money in my view. Global fan base means global money.

To answer the OP; everything we used to be and everything we still hold on to, by the skin of our teeth, thanks to the fans.

Big domestic fanbase
Big foreign fanbase (If you have this you are probably an elite club who wins trophies consistently)
Consistently large attendance figures
Regular Champions League qualification

If 2 or more of those things apply you are a big club.

I feel like the 'big club' thing needs to be defined more. Everton, Villa, Leeds, Newcastle... all big clubs with large fanbases but to foreigners, they probably aren't considered big clubs. There is a huge difference between the likes of United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal compared to Everton etc, they have all had success and competed in Europe during the Premier Leagues boom years and have built global fanbases that other clubs can only dream of. Man City will be in a similar position globally if they continue as they are.
