Everton suffered a 2-0 pre-season defeat this morning by American side Real Salt Lake.

Salt Lake took the lead in the 28th minute through captain Carey Talley and within a minute Everton conceded a disappointing second as the American Side doubled their advantage when Robbie Findley put the ball past Tim Howard to make it 2-0.

As expected, manager David Moyes wasn't best pleased with the outcome, claiming it was a 'wake up call'.

Speaking to evertonTV, Moyes: "The boys had a hard session as far as running about tonight. But it wasn't a good performance. A lot of people tonight would tell you the conditions were very warm but we won't use that as an excuse. It is part of the training and defeats will come along but we are disappointed in the nature of tonight's game because we have been doing okay, we have been full of confidence and were brimming after last season"

"But maybe we needed that, maybe it is a wake-up call to make us realise we are all about hard work and commitment and there wasn't enough of that tonight."

Wow, didn't expect that! Maybe it is the altitude that got them?!?!?!?! It is @ 4200ft!

Maybe Joseph Smith was watching over Real Salt Lake today!!!

It was first starts of the pre-season for Yobo, Jagielka, Beattie and Osman.

Then Valente is still gaining match fitness after being out for so long.

Neville and Carsley in the middle of the park is never played together anyway and is a negative midfield so i wouldn't worry about the loss.

We had alot just trying to gain match fitness.

does any one now how long after landing they played this game?

no excuse i now but its a long flight.

He had the same birthday as me - 23/12 (not that there's any relevance in it  )

I thought I'd just look up Joseph Smith to read about him. I didn't realize how he died! Terrible. I suppose, after what happened to him, Jehova's Witnessnes can be thankful all they get is the a withering look as the door is closed on them!
