3. Be someone that people listen to on and off the pitch
4. Don't be injured for half the season
5. Be an organizer and be able to read the game

Kolscieny is a fine player, was very good last season, and isn't injured all the time, he also formed an effective and settled partnership with mertasacker
 
A man who inspires, who you would bleed for, a man who would do himself whatever he asked you to do. The greatest captains in history were the people who earned respect first and enhanced it second. Rough as guts, team first, defend them to the hilt material.

Examples I'm thinking of are Richie McCaw, Martin Johnson, Alan Border, Michael Vaughan, Roy Keane.
